Is a guy who breaks conversation to say hello to people coming in the room not interested in me?

Question

More than one guy has demonstrated this behavior. We'd be talking one on one at a table in a pub, being the first ones there for a group meeting. He seemed interested in our conversation, yet at the same time always on the lookout for other people (men) about to join us, and he'd forget what we were talking about if someone did join. If he was attracted to me, would he still do that, or would he not notice other people walking into the room, because he's so captivated by our conversation?

But going outright greeting and derailing your conversation is offensive !..

If he is talking to you, than you are his priority.

problem is the guys you are meeting are most probably already hiding their relationship from you, and that's why they Run or blow up the thing when someone they know sees them, so it's like you aren't an important person to them, that way they don't doubts his loyalty or tell their woman about you!..

They trying to make you side chick!..

Change your method of finding a man!..

So you’ve probably heard in your studies of psychology and neurobiology that men and women track different things at different levels of ability such as people that are in the room movement around them etc. When someone approaches the two of you, he’s tracking and deciding whether they’re a threat and acknowledging them is going to help him make that determination because their reaction will provide the necessary information. These days it isn’t really thought of in those terms anymore, but there was a point in human history that that would be an accurate description. If anything he’s subconsciously calculating how to protect you if any of them turned out to be a threat.

if people are going to join you for a meeting... it is just common courtesy to at least acknowledge them when they arrive

and about the ongoing conversation, well... it would be also common courtesy to welcome the rest of the group, instead of ignoring them and keep the personal conversation going between just the two of you and therefore risk for the third person to feel out of place when they actually are there to meet you two in a group

now, if you have a romantic interest on this guy from work, maybe not a good idea to see a group meeting under the same circumstances in which you would have a one-on-one date

many girls would prefer a guy that is nice and considerate with others while they are still with you, because to ignore or disregard others while they are with you might be a sign of a few negative things but oh well... it is about the details and the circumstances

If it's a meeting, I don't see this as being a sign of him not liking or being attracted to you. I'm assuming the meeting is at work so if the conversation was personal in nature, it could have been done as a way to mitigate any issues to possibly arise. Had this not been a meeting and you two were someplace alone, Id expect someone interested to ask for a moment before you continue talking, wave at others, give them an indication for them to wait a second before he comes to them or they come to him, tell you what's going on, and based on discussion at hand determine if now is appropriate to pause current discussion so he and they can have a proper hello.

His ability to engage other human beings in a situation involving other human beings suggests only that he’s an actual human being. Someone who literally ignores the entire world around themselves to pretend that you’re the end-all, be-all is WAY more likely to want to keep you as a pet or put you in a trophy case.

If a friend came in I'd feel obliged to greet him but I would introduce you so you are not cut out and encourage him to go away by making it clear I am chatting you up.

If it is a group meeting it sounds like there could be some purpose other than social - was there?

I think he was just trying to be civil to the people that came to the table. It would actually be rude if he completely ignored them. It's not like you both were having a date. There could be more to it, but I don't know what is exactly going on in his head.

What I think is some guys pretend not to be attracted to upgrade their value to women who have many men chasing them, you can’t assume a guy does not like you if he purposely acts like he doesn’t like you.

You don't have to be a hog for attention. There's nothing wrong with him saying hello to others unless he just completely blows you off in mid conversation. If he's still conversing with you, you have his attention, he was just saying hi to someone for a split second.

Depends on the individual. You can't assume all men are the same, or roughly the same. Perhaps most men are roughly the same, but that means some don't belong to that generalisation for whatever trait. Case by case judgement.
