Why would a guy avoid you?

Our common friend and I talk for hours in the same small bookshop, drink coffee, etc. but this guy wouldn't talk to me, in a way escapes from me, so do I.

I kind of like him. I once messaged him on Facebook asking why he hates me. He answered: "I don't hate you I don't know why you have thought that. It's just even if I look at myself I put a kind of distance with myself (especially with myself). When I try to look close, everything gets blurry."

Why would a guy avoid you, although you don't do something annoying or try to bother, etc.? He talks to others around but not to me. It seems so strange when everybody talks with everybody in the same place but he and I, no. On the other hand, he would look at you and would especially not forget to say "bye" like a way to say "i don't hate you". Any comments?

He feels different around you. All the other girls kind of diminish in his vision when you're around, and are therefore easier to talk to. You become a focal point for his thoughts, and while magnified, blur his vision. You're just hard to look at.

He's suffering from putting you on a pedestal. When confronted, he tries to save face, by denying it.

The only other alternative: he feels jaded by some advance he made to you that you spurned.

Anyway, if he has ever asked you anything close to "will you go out with me?" and you said you couldn't, or didn't reply, or said yes in a text that went off into space instead of his iPhone, he now hates you.

Not really. But he hates feeling bad around you and it makes it awkward to be near you, even if he tries to handle it by talking to you some times and it comes out in a broken voice, or like it's mid conversation for him, but he hasn't even said hi to you yet. I speak from recent experience. At my age your voice doesn't break, but it's like the bass speaker is broken and all you hear is the tweeter. High pitched.

In the end, does it really matter? Is there something about this person that you simply must know more about, or a way that he has that makes you want to sit on the couch during a rainstorm and snuggle? Do you want to watch him at a fight club?

I love throwing out the most random crap in my hypotheticals.

Ignoring him may be the best course. Don't do it in a mean way, but just go about life as if his presence doesn't affect you any more. It may give him the push he needs to make some obvious attempt to flirt or (gasp) talk to you.

He may be very shy, and not able to handle his shyness well. I could always talk and cut up with girls I didn't like, a lot easier than I could with girls that I did like. As a result people always thought I was hitting on the girls I didn't like, and that I disliked the girls that I did like.

I'm almost certain that it's just shyness. I get like that sometimes too especially when I'm around a girl I really like, it just throws me off my game and and I'm at a loss for how to react.

ok he likes you a lot and he is a nice guy. but he also has an STD. so in order to not give you an STD he needs to avoid you because he is a nice guy. its a possibility
