What exactly does "Going through some stuff... " mean?

So I've been seeing this guy for a few weeks now. He has mentioned before that he wanted to date me or be my boyfriend. I wanted to take things slow, he was okay with that. Well, we act like boyfriend and girlfriend, everyone already thinks we're dating..but when I told him I wanted to be with him too...he said "Well, I'm just going through some stuff right now..and I don't know what I want right now" What exactly does this mean?! We still act like we're together..but we don't have a title...so what gives?

Well here's an update. We started dating. Dated for a week, he got mad and broke up with me. He tried to get back together last night. I found out last night..he's dating 3 other girls...

It means exactly what it means... He is going through some stuff right now and he chooses not to talk to you about it. He doesn't know what he wants at the moment. He probably does not want to be in a committed relationship. He might just want a friend or he might just want to hookup.

Don't over analyze the situation he is making himself clear. I suggest you back off a little bit. Don't overwhelm him with questions about his feelings. He will tell you only what he wants to tell you.

Exactly what it means they are going through job loss or they’re actually dealing with family situation or mental emotional distress. It all depends on the person and situation.
