Does the sun make dyed hair lighter?

I've noticed that my hair gets lighter in the summer even though it's dyed. Is it an illusion or something or does it really get lighter? Can anyone explain how does it happen? I was just wondering...

Yes, sun makes the color fade faster. I dyed my hair a month ago (and yes, I know I should repeat every so to so weeks) and it has fade so much already! That's what sunlight (and chlorine) does...

What helps is wear a hat or something so your hair won't be in the sun all the time.

I meant blond hair not black! I have my hair dyed in a blond color.

It doesn't fade the dye, it just makes it lighter! That's why I am weirded out.

Oh OK, yeah, that's normal. Just like lemons make blond hair lighter too, or so I've read that somewhere

I get light blond highlights and they seem lighter but I am very glad about that because I want Barbie blond hair. The difference isn't drastic because I work indoors full time but I notice a slight difference so spending time outdoors must fade it a lot.

ive experienced the lightening of my hair because of the sun.im not sure why it happens though...maybe because of the chemicals.

Yes, especially if you swim & even more so if you swim in an ocean with salt water.

Look at girls that surf. Dark haired girls get very light colored & blonds look almost onion colored.
