A little more than a month ago I was trudging through a depression that seemed to had lingered for several years. Social anxiety, low self-esteem, confidence was shot, you name it.

Tandem Skydiving had always been on my bucket list, however it never came to fruition only until recently. My best friend had mentioned he was going, I don't know what came over me but I asked if I could join him. Right then and there he called the skydiving center and they took our credit card numbers and before I knew it, I was scheduled to jump in 4 days.

The anticipation leading up to jump day was full of anxiety, I began thinking to myself, why did I agree to this? I then began researching skydiving fatalities and statistics to try and ease my worry. That did not help so much.

It's jump day and we arrive at the skydiving center, a couple of buildings and a strip of airfield. We sign waivers informing us of possibility of death, and disfigurement. Then we receive 5 mins of training, the instructors do all the work.

After our quick intro we are quickly herded to the plane, which was in my opinion in pretty good shape.

I would have to say the plane ride up to the clouds is the most anxiety you'll feel, my palms were sweating as we elevated toward the heavens.

Once you face out that door, nothing else matters. Your problems are below you 14,000 ft. All you feel is pure mental focus, your mind and body are warning you what you are doing isn't a good idea, yet against it's wishes you hurdle out of the plane.

Take risks, step out of your comfort zone. There is no cure for depression, however there are ways to manage it.

+Surround yourself with positive people in your life, remove the toxic ones.

+Start eating better, take care of your body.

+Exercise, even if you're out of shape. A little each day and you will start building endurance.

+Most of all, love yourself.
