+1 yYes in a care home I spent some time in but only the boys were naked so the girls got to see our willies but we never saw anything of them and I thought that was unfair

Asker+1 yI'm sure they didn't take much notice after a while

They did to start off - they really used to stare but they were mostly much younger girls so I don't suppose they were getting any sexual feelings from staring
Asker+1 yMost probably not.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yWhat? We had swim class which was obviously mixed gender but we were most certainly not naked and we definitely had separate locker rooms to shower and change in.

NO, I didn't go to a private school and our 15 public schools don't have swimming pools, if they have a swim team they use a community pool.

+1 yI've actually been researching this topic, which is how I found this.
So understand that this practice was around from the late 1800s to about 1972-80 in the United States. While the YMCA is the main source of following the recommended guidelines that the US Dept of Health (called something different at the time), many public schools followed suit as well. The bad portion of this honestly comes down to how boys were treated differently than girls; which had real impact on social standards then & now.
Understanding that the typical American worker had little to no access to internal plumbing and would have to collect water and dispose waste, rarely ever cleaning anything - themselves or clothing - while living in crowded and diseased cities brought on by the industrial and technological advancements; bathing was necessary and would be done in local rivers and lakes, often sequestered, but as often not in a crowded populous.
This is where public baths came into play. Mostly men and boys would partake of these. But even these were unsanitary, and gave way to pools to get away from 'wild water'. Sadly, pools had to be filtered, and textiles would clog the primitive filters, so the Dept of Health recommended nudity - but not across the board, as it should have been, and segregated by both race and gender.
in my opinion - it would have been better to NOT segregate by gender (and race, though racial equality would not happen for many many years, sadly). Allowing children to experience eachother in full view should have settled curiosity and leveled the playing field. Sisters and friends would be allowed to see the boys compete at the YMCA, while the girls - once they were allowed to swim (as female athletics wasn't even a thing until the middle of last century) - were afforded uncomfortable cotton suits provided by the schools and YWCAs that were washed after. Which begs the question of why boys couldn't wear cotton shorts provided by these institutions or girls couldn't be required to be nude, even in segregated conditions.
But in any case, this continued until the Women/ Girls invaded the YMCA and presented title IX in 1972, which meant everyone had to suit up. By then, suit fibers had become synthetic, and chemicals had become true disease combatants, making nudity unnecessary in the hygienic and health senses. However, I argue that the follow up to this gave rise to the porn industry, promiscuity and teenage pregnancy, and general moral decline of America; letting sex sell everything and stoking the fires of pedophilia and rape culture. Nudity does not equal these things, which often dulls those that are compelled, while restricting the body from others' view does when placed in our powder keg culture of overtly obscured sexuality. As a nudist, Nudity does not equal Sex. But I digress.
So yes nudity for boys did happen, but I question that girls were subjected to mandated nudity, and HIGHLY DOUBT that it was co-gender based on my research. If there is documented proof in administrative records of your private school that this was allowed, by all means, please present it. No - not pictures. I've seen more than my share of the nude form. But just the policy of the school that allowed co-gendered nudity, and during your time at the school.
The only proof I've ever had of this, that even came close to this, was Summerhill School; because it was a student governed 'school' (using that term loosely, as it was more a free-for-all anarchistic view of education). Even that... I am skeptical.

+1 yI never knew this concept of 'nude mixed gender swim class' even existed, unless it was some private club which was exclusive to people who were turned on or had fetishes about skinny dipping.

+1 y'dafuq did i just read lol. Naw, man and were the same age. My HS didn't even have a swimming pool let alone a naked teen swim setup. Is this in the US? Sounds like it would be super awkward.

just google'd it here's the rationale i found from one person.
1. No one wanted to wear a swim suits, swimming naked was more common back then.
2. The pool manager said that it helped to keep the pool cleaner.(i don't know where to begin here lol)
3. No gay people were around back then. (not sure how that logic still makes sense to the person)
You'd think the parents back then would prefer other strangers not see their child naked. wtf!
Dammit!! Is something burning?
Oh. Wait. Wait. Never mind.

I have a feeling your making this up.11 Reply- +1 y
In the open communal showers outside, yes they do, but there are usually single stalls for the swimming pool and jacuzzi. The one I went to had two stalls (just like your home would have) next to the jacuzzi and would require you to shower off before entering. While a man and a woman could be in that shower room, size constraints would have them in two separate stalls.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yi tithink hnk the nude swim classes stopped in like the mid 70's...
21 Reply- +1 y
Started to (1972) - but some schools were late to develop the new practice of Title IX until the 80s.
One School in Sarasota FL even gave the choice to the Phys Ed Teachers, who passed it on to the kids. The Boys said yes to suits and the girls, now given the option of NOT wearing them, stuck up for the boys and went nude for a few months before they were forced to suit back up.
