It's not just you, but it's also not everyone. I had the opposite timeline of problems from you. I was a casual gym goer for a while a few years back. For like 9 months or so, I'd go 3 times a week for 45-60 minutes each time. And I wouldn't really have a problem with missing days.
But now, I can't NOT go to the gym on my usual days. I'm hooked and can't get enough of it. When I'm in there, I lose track of time and end up staying for like an hour and a half or so. I stopped making my sessions be X-amount of time and just did my workout, however long it takes. When I miss days, I feel angsty and like I'm really missing out. When I'm at home later on in the night, I will sometimes watch workout videos or channels (like Elliott Hulse's open gym series, as an example), or read up on fitness topics to learn more for myself, etc.
I suppose working out just might not be your go-to thing. Or maybe you've hit a plateau and stayed there for too long to the point where you've lost motivation?

it never feels like work for me. I go because I want to improve my body each day and grow strong.
I feel the exact same way!! I am a work out freak and I spend 3 hrs in the gym at least everyday.
