I particularly advise caution when using 'scientific' papers on this topic, as many commentators set out to prove something, and the method is often shoddy.]
Women have less upper body strength than men.
Women have stronger lower bodies than upper, men often have the reverse.
This leads to the general assumption that women have greater lower body strength... but generally it falls flat on it's face. Your average man is generally physically stronger than your average woman, lower and upper body. This is partially because men put on muscle mass more easily, partially due to male proportions being slightly better mechanically for strength, but it is a sum of many factors.
If all else were equal (height, build, excercise background etc) it might be different, but I wouldn't bet on it.01 Reply- +1 y

Not true. Women's legs are closer in power to men's legs than their arms are relative to men's arms, but they do not have as much natural muscle. Women are more flexible, though, and can do certain things with their legs that men can't. That's what I understand.
11 Reply- +1 y
Yeah I think we are a bit more flexible.
Training there can make quite a difference though.
My sister's leg were always the most powerful I had stronger strikes from her legs than I have from any man's hand let alone legs, actually my sister kicking was the only way she could get an upper hand on the fight. When I fight with guys they never use leg kicks and if they did they didn't phase me, they were so weak. (I used to play fight all the time). I never resorted to leg kicks because I didn't need to gain the upper hand that badly and I also didn't want to really harm anyone since it was just play. Maybe there is some truth to this, but that's a bit weird because evolutionary why would women need these strong legs?

I don't know why women need and have stronger legs than men. But maybe it's because you need strong legs to give birth? I don't know
+1 yI voted B.
I take Karate and can register over 600 lbs on a strike machine with a front kick.
I've see guys register 2,000 lbs.
But I'm small, only 100 lbs flat.
We are more agile than guys, and just as fast or even faster.
But that's only partially related to hips, and I took gymnastics.
Athletic girls can outdo most average guys.
But depending on the sport, athletic guys can almost always outdo the girls, at least relating to brute strength.

Korean but I'm not sure of the style.

Women are more flexible, men are generally faster and more agile.
Most of the girls I know have MUCH stronger legs than most of the guys I know. So I think this might be true. I can lift approx twice as much as my current boyfriend on most leg-machines (even though he works out his legs regularly), on some leg-exercises even more than that. Female thighs are in general quite a bit thicker and bulkier I think. However, the roles are reversed when it comes to upper body exercises.

How much stronger are girls muscles than boys muscles in the legs? I agree with you that girls legs are thicker and bulkier
- 10 mo
Very true. My arms so much stronger than my girlfriends arms.
But at leg wrestling she rules 😭
+1 yI have yet to see that. My boyfriend's lower legs are smaller than mine. Then again my legs are fairly big for someone my size. But I'm definitely stronger that him when it comes to the lower body. Now if he worked out his lower legs then he'd definitely over power me. Its all about what muscles are more naturally developed.

So true. My girlfriend kills me in lower body ugh lol
+1 yIt depends if they're both in shape. Modesty set aside when I go hiking with guys they're always out of breath and needing to stop when I'm perfectly fine.

Asker+1 yI don't know if that has much to do with sheer strength. Rather more to do with Endurance, Conditioning and Stamina in the lower bodies rather than sheer strength.
- +1 y
True... It is rather hilarious to see though...
- +1 y
Probably because you hike more and/or are in better shape.
- +1 y
Or you're just making it up lol

This! My girlfriend is thicker in legs. You might say its fat. But she routinely beats me in hiking or leg wrestling. Ugh !

Not remotely.
here’s some actual data on deadlifts from a huge pool of users:
https://strengthlevel.com/strength-standards/deadlift#standardsFemale
beginner men lift far more than beginner women even if they are the same weight. The average man is significantly bigger than the average woman as well.
training only increases the gap.00 Reply- 717 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic.
+1 yI've heard that women have stronger legs because they have to be built to support an extra 40-60lbs of weight during pregnancy, and also be strong for childbirth.
It's a different kind of strength than men have.52 Reply- +1 y
How much stronger are girls muscles than boys muscles in the legs?
- 10 mo
This. My girlfriends legs are bigger and they always win in leg wrestling. If we both put 100 pounds on our backs and squatted them i might have a chance. But girls in general have strong legs and hips. Its a different strength than just gym muscles
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yWomen's lower body is proportionately stronger. From lifting weights in high school, I'd say a man and woman of close to the same size/strength/build will be closer in leg exercises than in arm exercises. But men, as a whole, are bigger, faster and stronger than women.

+1 yIf you're looking at this from a men vs women perspective this is completely false... if you look at this from a women's upper body to lower body strength ratio vs men's upper body to lower strength ratio then it's different.
01 Reply- +1 y
Meaning if a girl can squat 100lbs and benches 50lbs it's a 2:1 ratio. If a guy squats 200bs and benches 150lbs 4:3 ratio...
Yeah if you look at the world records for men's and women's weightlifting numbers the men are waaaaaay stronger.
In the army, the women were told that they can get cut some lack on pushups but not sit-ups because their abdomens are stronger due to muscles for child birth.
27 Reply- +1 y
They can get away with bad pushups? If you can't do basic proper pushups, you shouldn't be joining the army. And by proper, I mean when you're on your toes pushing yourself up in plank position. Not that knees on the ground, quasi-pushup crap 😂
- +1 y
Lol, yeah they were allowed to do less of them, a lot less. When they complained they couldnt do the sit ups the sergeants called them out on it. This was after i had to listen to the, stand up at the beginning of boot camp and say that they are strong women bla bla bla. the worst was when we were in the filed a week or so and it was 115 degrees in the afternoon. We were running out of water but these women asked the sergeant to give them some of the last few gallons to wash themselves. He did. We were pissed and then he told us he did it so we would remember that women shouldn't be in a combat unit... We were field artillery. they were going to other type units but the point was made.

In other military's like Israel, Russia and Cuba women have excellent performance records, including the field.
Modern military's relay more on mechanization, training, strategy, and brains to defeat their enemy.

I was in a fully mechanized unit with M109 self propelled howitzers. I undertsand your comments. I respect all the armies that you mention, and the Israelis use the M109. It still doesn't explain why they would ask to use what little water we had to wash up. They lacked toughness and didn't care since they got water but the rest of the battalion did not as the water ran out soon after. They rest of us were wondering when we might get more water given it was so hot. Did they have a period out there and need it? I dont know but they used it at the detriment of the unit. If they join the army they need to be a soldier. The shells we used were 100 pounds each and we used a lot. who is going to lift that for them? Or half the other stuff all of which was heavy? Plus there are other issues that are a lot to go into here. of the 7 or so of them at least 3 had sex with sergeants or giving BJ in an empty barracks. That interferes with the unit as well. I didn't see them step up.
- +1 y
Yeah, I don't think you've ever been in the army. Abdominal strength isn't *too* different between men and women but men's are still stronger. The reason they wouldn't cut women slack on sit-ups is because sit-ups are FAR easier to do than push-ups, even for average people.
- +1 y
@crazyincalifornia What are you talking about? Even in those countries women's performance isn't even half of men's and tends to still be sub-par. And in most countries (like Russia) women are not permitted on the battlefield.
"The macho male is more a Hollywood invention than reality. Always was!"
No it isn't. It was real. Still is to an extent. It's just that people like you didn't like it, and swept it away because of "toxic masculinity" or something. Stop making stuff up.
Women's world records in track events are slower than high school boys' state records in most states in the U. S.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yEveryone has more strength in their lower body than their upper body. But men usually have stronger legs. Apart from the fact than men are generally stronger, men are usually heavier so they need stronger legs

Guys flat out have more muscle.
Girls also have an extra fat layer, but I don't think that makes for any application here.
+1 yi don't know about that. It partly depends on which gender uses their legs more often.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yNot sure who told you that nonsense. On average, women's legs are MUCH weaker than men's

I think you are correct.
I really didn't look it up though.
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yVery much true. Female legs are very much stronger. Nature created it that way. Besides, girls work out their legs much more than guys.
