Anonymous(25-29)+1 yIt depends on the person. I play 19U guys ice hockey and am one of the faster, stronger, and better players. My rowing coach had me row with the mens team about half the time. Last mountain biking season, I entered in my age division for the women's race and got a lower time for all the guys in the same age division. In general, it just depends on the person.

Strength is complicated and human beings are dynamic and there is no way to measure the strength between women and men bc there's no solidifying criteria for what a woman of a man is. All people are different including and regardless of sex.10 Reply
Physically then yes. Although I work out and am stronger than some guys I know that do bugger all exercise wise and eat junk. But generally speaking then your average man is physically stronger than your average woman. I think in terms of emotional and mental strength of will, women often show superior resilience though.

+1 yMen are stronger naturally & physically it's a fact or else there wouldn't be that double standard about domestic violence. Men wouldn't be crucified for hitting a girl. I'm not saying a woman can't be strong but not stronger than a man unless she is taking testosterone I believe

Generally speaking yes.
Is it ALWAYS the case?
No.
Mentally , gender has no correlation to strength.124 Reply- +1 y

The votes results are kinda... interesting lol
Everyone is focusing on physical strength alone... eh. - +1 y
I would say that generally men are physically stronger because of their growth rates and their muscle build, but there are many exceptions. Our society frowns upon girls gaining muscles and if such stereotypes were demolished I would say that women and men would generally have the same strength. Many mens' muscles have been gained due to gym work and women are purely afraid of what others would think if they strived to get muscles by working out. Of course, womens' abbs, stomache, and pelvic muscles are naturally superior because of child-birth and often they are also mentally stronger. Women are also generally more flexible, but because of society norms flexible is deemed an unimportant trait.

Regarding physical strength: on average men are stronger than women, but as always there is an overlap region. So there exists a group of females that are stronger than a group of men. Pure statistics. However mentally, there is no real difference. Only the way females approach problems is generally different from men.

+1 yIf women are physically stronger than men, then I believe it would be unfair for men in the military to be tested with more difficult fitness standards.
Women have their own strengths though. Not all strength is physical.00 Reply
+1 yPhysically yes. This is just basic biology. Man have more testosterone which mean faster and bigger muscle growth.
Mentally, I would like to think both gender are about equal.10 Replyi don't know about other guys, but personally i get defeated very often by girls, in a wrestling match basically

Mentally and emotionally, no.09 Reply- +1 y
Men are not emotionally stronger? Are you sure about that =)
- +1 y
@Homebakedcookies She's right. Women are more in contact with their emotions, they understand how they feel and they have no problems to express it. Men don't show their emotions, they are always hiding them. If you're emotionally and mentally strong, why would you hide that? Plus, if you're always hiding them you can't become emotionally strong.
- +1 y
If by stronger you mean more of them, then yes. Women have strong feelings more often than men. But are they more emotionally balanced than men? Hardly.
I am also in contact with my emotions. Just because my emotions are for the most part neutral and balanced, it doesn't mean I don't feel anything or don't understand what I'm feeling.
Balanced emotions is part of a mans natural behavior. To hide stronger feelings is also a part of our natural behavior due to a subconcious competition with other males for a leader position.
A male leader who shows his emotions is open for attacks. That is why showing too strong emotions is considered a weakness or insecurity in men.
Strong emotions in men usually result from a Lack of control. And a lack of control signals you're a Bad Leader. - +1 y
@Homebakedcookies I would hardly consider men more balanced at their emotions considering the majority of crimes, rapes, sexual abuse, physical abuse, homicides and serial killing have all been done by men.
- +1 y
Criminal behavior in men is not necessarily connected to unbalanced feelings, but a LACK of them combined with strong sexual urges and a big ego. Conveniently enough these men are also the losers of society.
Science says men are more prone to solving problems that cause them emotional instability, rather than wallowing in their current emotional state. That is, when men get emotional, logic kicks in instead. If we can't handle the problem, that's when we get emotional for real. - +1 y
@Homebakedcookies. You can try to rephrase it any way you want but a LACK of feelings is and imbalance in itself. Therefore your initial statement of "Balanced emotions is part of a mans natural behavior" does not hold at all.
Also since men commit more of these crimes, abuses and homicides than women your statement of "Science says men are more prone to solving problems that cause them emotional instability, rather than wallowing in their current emotional state." isn't true either since the majority of men refute that statement when compared to women.
Women are mentally and emotionally stronger than men. That's just the way it is. - +1 y
A lack of feelings is not an inbalance. Since there is nothing there to begin with there is nothing that can be balanced nor inbalanced. That's like saying there is death in every place there is no life. For death to exist there must first be life.
A majority of men refute the statement? What majority of men is that?
Anyway. Give me an example of how the average woman is "emotionally stronger" than the average man. And how does a man not compete at their level of emotion exactly? What makes the man "emotionally weaker"? - +1 y
Again your concept that lack is not an imbalance is delusional.
A sociopath is defined by the DSM - IV as having a LACK of feelings for others, a LACK of remorse and regret, and having a LACK of ethics with regards to truth which translates to an ability to lie in order to achieve one's goals.
A narcissist is defined by the DSM-IV as having a LACK of empathy towards other, a LACK of factual perception characterized by a pattern of grandiosity.
Therefore your first statement of LACK of feelings as not being an imbalance is incorrect. The premier authoritative reference used in psychiatry discredits your statement.
Two, with regards to majority of men statement. Compare the percentage of women and men who commit the crimes aforementioned and men will constitute the majority of offenders. - +1 y
Three, women have endured abuse, rape, violence, being single parents and providers for their households for centuries and continue to survive and thrive. A man who is raped or physically abused is an emotional and mental wreck for the rest of their lives. Most men cannot manage being single parents either. Men are not equipped to deal with the amount of emotional stress women undergo every day.
You can continue to argue all you want, but your statements of men being balanced and able to logically deal with emotions means you have no clue about what constitutes human psychiatry.
+1 yOf course, it's fact.
