How good are doctors with patient confidentiality?

So i went into urgent care a couple of days ago because i was getting little "crampy" feelings in my stomach and near my pelvis and sometimes felt pressure iny abdominal area. They had me give them a urine sample and it took them almost half an hour to come back and talk with me.. i wasn't alone... my mom was with me and she stepped out just before the doctor came in and told me my urine was normal... she said something to me after which really has me SUSPICIOUS.. she asked "ok... so.. is there ANYTHING you need to tell me?" I said no and she asked again to be sure and i said no then she prescribed me pills... do you think i could be pregnant and she is covering up for me because my mom was with me? Because when she walked in she asked me if i was alone and i told her no that my mom was with me... i have had irregular periods the last two months they were at most 2 and a half days and very light...

Well, she wouldn't hide the fact that you are pregnant from YOU. If you were pregnant, she would have told you.

Sometimes, if a young person goes to a doctor with their parent, they may ask to talk to you alone (or in this case, find an opportunity to talk to you when you were alone) because sometimes people feel too embarrassed to answer their questions honestly in front of their parents. The doctor wants to make sure you told them everything because they can't help you if they don't have the full story.

Doctors are great with confidentiality BC they can get sued otherwise. If your until 18 I believe they can tell your mom anything about your situation wether you want them to or not BC your a minor and under your parents care. But I'm sure that varies by country/ state and all.

If you were pregnant they would have told you. One I the first tests they run when you come in with cramping in that area is a pregnancy test.

I don't think that's what they were talking about, Google the medication. I bet it's for treating some form of std. I'm not judging, just trying to answer you're question. Either way, it was wrong of you're Dr not telling you what it was for.

Doctors are bound by law to keep anything you say between you to unless you give her or him permission to say otherwise or they are ordered to by law enforcement or the government.

The thing is that that wasn't my doctor
She told my mom to keep an eye on me and see my doctor if the pains get worse

But her and i never met before that i felt like there was something she wanted to tell me but im not sure if she didn't say it because i wasn't alone... and im 18 in a couple of days so...

Well I think she still can't say anything since you were her patient even if it was for that day that fact still does not change.

If you're under 18 the doctor can share details with your parents but if you're over 18 it is completely illegal for a doctor to release any details about you without your consent.
