i see it as a warning sign. It screams "STAY AWAY."
mental instability, a lack of emotional self control, and narcissistic drama in which one does harm to oneself in order to get the attention, and concern, of others.
Simply put, I see self harm scars, and I will avoid you like the plague.
And if you think that that is unfair, and that you are not what I describe? Well, either you are deluded, or... I don't care anyways. I do not care if you are an exception to that rule, and a sane, stable person.
You are a sane, stable person who makes the choice to wear the trappings of a damaged, deranged person. You can not possibly do that and not expect to be judged for it.01 Reply- +1 y

I think its stupid. Some people have a serious problem and need mental health but now days most people just do it for attention and because its become such a common thing in the emo/goth subculture.
However when you bring up how stupid it is you are portrayed as the bad guy as the self-harmer is obviously depressed or has other issues going on.
I have had depression myself as have 1/8 people in the world and nowhere close to 1/8 people self harm. All it does is makes the problem worse and doesn't offer a solution at all. There are plenty of ways to get help if you have mental problems now days so there really is no reason for it.01 Reply
Asker+1 yI get your point. Some people who have a low self-esteem will self-harm for attention. However, others will do it as a way of coping with their feelings. It is stupid to self-harm, however when people are in a situation where they just cannot cope it is not as simple. It is only when you experience what some people go through yourself that you will understand.
+1 yIt shows that you're weak. I used to self harm, and I was weak. I only got better when I stopped feeling sorry for myself all the time and worked my ass of to improve my life. I still have depression, I still have anxiety, but at least I'm doing all I can and I'm not sitting around and making excuses anymore.

+1 yEveryone is dealing with something that no one may know about. As someone that cuts, it's quite saddening to see people brush it off as attention seeking or being fake.

+1 yNo judgment. But the fact is deliberate self harm is a sign of severe emotional/mental issues that NEED to be addressed before a person is ready to enter into a relationship, because those same issues will also find their way into how you treat your significant other.

+1 yThere crazy and they got nothing else to do.
They wanna feel outsides like they don't fit in society. Like there somehow better they see the world for what it is. They feel like they are alone.
You are alone dummy but only because u refuses to reach out and connect with the world. and change it
I hate fake deppresed people.03 Reply
Asker+1 ySomebody who is depressed may feel like that. Somebody who has a low self-esteem may fake it because they need the attention. But not everybody fakes depression so be careful who you judge.
Asker+1 yBy the way i am not talking about myself. So i don't know why you're aiming it at me if thats what you're doing. But i have a close friend who has a low self-esteem, gets depressed and self-harms.

Oh not you I'm not talking about u. I was just speaking in general. When ever I used the word u.
All I speak from experience of depression. So I know. I had it the worse I dropped out high actually I got kicked out I stop showing I felt like o didn't realte to the everyday life style of those people I felt like I was above them
I felt like I'm not cool enough to get the girl. And everyone doing the same thing I don't fit.
I only felt happy for like 3 hours a day. I always wanted to be alone I pushed my friend away
I saw the world pass by and I was just stagnant or frozen. And when I realized life is more then this maybe I should try I felt like I left behind now how could I catch up I ruined my life. I should just end it I disappointed my family. also I was poor living with fucking roatchs on food stamps.
Does that ring a bell. I been most of these people
Outside being abused or touched or dumped by someone other than that I'm them.
Age 17-18 I was depressed and now
As someone who has done it: it's not healthy at all. It's a symptom of unresolved problems and an incapability to resolve and cope with issues in a healthy and productive manner.
10 Replymy views are, that they are probably depressed as hell thats why they do this, and as time goes they'll eventually learn that its not good, and it does nothing to solve our problems or do any cure to our depression, those people need some love and caring. no one should criticized them or judge them

+1 yThey have deep-rooted , underlying unresolved issues. I don't judge them in a negative way, because we all deal with emotional pain in different ways.
10 ReplyI don't have a moral judgment one way or the other, but I think they need to seek help. Self-harm reaffirms one's negative belief in oneself. Stopping that is the first step towards fixing whatever prompted the person in question to self-harm.

+1 ySelf harm is stupid, which doesn't necessarily mean the person who harms themselves is stupid, only that they're in a state where they act unwisely.
It's a sign of mental weakness and lack of self control. Said people need help.10 Reply- 743 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic.
+1 yThey have unresolved issues and they need to find another path to deal with them. Seeking help from a therapist or something that makes them not want to cut. I don't judge them we all have our demons

+1 yi judge and criticize them all the time. that behavior is not normal, and they should be shamed for it.

Asker+1 yNo they shouldn't. It's unfair to judge something you haven't experienced before. And usually when you judge a book by its cover your judgement is wrong. People go through things in life that make living a daily struggling. Things such as bullying, abuse, relationship problems. If you haven't experienced these things and self-harming itself then empathize with these people rather than criticize them. You'll find that judging them does not help to solve the problem.

This just goes to show that people are weak, and dont deserve empathy because they can't stand up for themselves. Or their boyfriend didn't text them good morning, so they decide that physical pain will make it go away. Pfft pathetic.
Asker+1 yIf a boyfriend doesn't text a girl good morning i doubt it would cause them to self-harm. I'm thinking more realistically when people are in difficult situations. If a bully, abuser or an unkind partner has more power than a person it's not easy to stand up for yourself. And whatever emotional or mental pain they cause; if it gets too much it messes people up and they end up expressing their emotions in the wrong way. Situations such as emotional abuse can cause mental damage and this is why they self-harm. Therefore, it is not pathetic.
Asker+1 yby the way psychology is a very interesting subject. You learn about how the mind works and how this affects our feelings and behaviour. Check it out, you might think differently about people with mental health problems. Plus, all theory is backed up by experiment; so it is proven to be true.
