Why would she stop eating?

Why would an apparently normal 19 year old girl suddenly stop eating? She hasn't eaten for 5 days now I'm very worried about her. She acts happy and cheerful, but its a front. She used to eat a good amount of food, but junk food, the wrong sorts of things. Now she won't even eat chocolate, which was her favourite junk food.

Thanks for the replies. To be more clear, she isn't eating anything at the moment as far as we can tell. Ill try offering her healthy food. See how that goes.

Be careful! I was anorexic as a teenager and became obsessed with my weight which it sounds to me like she is too. Don't try to force her to eat, but sit her down and talk to her about it in a non-confrontational, loving way. Be weary of the internet and magazines as well for dieting tips and tricks plus the stupid airbrushed, unrealistic celebrities on there. I got obsessed because even though I have always been naturally skinny, I didn't feel pretty or good enough and I felt that might weight was the only thing I could control in life so I became obsessed with staying slender. I recovered and am still slender but healthy. But you need to pay attention to her and talk to her about this because it can become deadly.

She could have an eating disorder or she might be feeling unwell. I have some medical problems that make me nauseous and eating, even my favorite foods, makes me vomit when I am. having symptoms. See if she'll eat anything at all, if not, confront her and convince her to visit a physician.

sounds like she is being bullied by someone or being harassed by family for her to be like that. i would make sure she is not being treated badly by someone if you have a way to check up on her.

Maybe she wants to lose weight (she doesn't necessarily have to be fat) or she's afraid of gaining it. Stop eating is the wrong way to do it though. Or maybe she's too sad deep inside.

Maybe she wants to lose weight that day or just detox.
Anyway don't worry she won't be able to stay on a full fast like that for much longer if she's still seemingly not eating after another week chances are she's just eating without you knowing.

She wants to lose weight and she feels bad about her appearance. Restricting caloric intake is the only way she knows how to do this.
