Isn't it weird how trees can live so long?

Some live thousands of years. There was a tree growing right on the side of an AC unit so I obviously had to re-plant it, and it's an eastern red cedar which can live over 900 years... it's weird to think that something may be around so long depending on whether or not I transplanted it well enough.

Yes it is its also weird that humanity strives for immortality yet trees turtles etc all out live us and that even the immortal jellyfish and sea hydra are biologicly immortal (I believe both have the same mechanism which essentially allows themselves to reset their genes back to a previous point in time (like loading up a save file) which allows them to revert to a younger age so they never grow old or suffer from any kind of "natural" death.

Well, I think some species of tortoises, but some turtles can live a good amount too. But yeah... some trees live thousands of years which is crazy. They should figure out how to make humans like jelly fish :P

Well they actually found a turtle with a musket ball in its shell it was that old. It would be nice to know that you have all the time in the world though. Perhaps one day.

I don't think turtles live nearly as long, but some can live over 100 I think, depends on the species.

Yeah. I've heard some things that it may not be so far off... but who knows.

Also, bowhead whales can live to 200

200 hundred years usually for sea turtles and such but its still significantly longer then humans who's average life span is only 74. I was merely pointing out that its kind of ironic that we are at the top of the food chain, highly intelligent with advanced technology to keep us alive and so many other things still out live us.

74 what.. globally? I mean in the US I think you have to consider that minorities will have shorter average lifespans, and plus if you are younger now your life expectancy will be higher by the time you are older anyway. I think it's closer to 80 overall here though.

Nope not weird but amazing!!! You can count rings and some of them can grow soo straight. Its also amazing how a forest can be clear cut and regain it's strange and watch it grow over a few years. Its quite amazing.

Well there was this saying at a museum I went to, "It takes a tree to grow 2,000 years, but can be cut down in 20 minutes".

I do love trees, and whenever I see one I always smile at it, it's been around for years and it doesn't fascinate anyone.
