Living with Celiac?

I know this is sorta random but I'm getting tested in a few weeks to see if I have celiac. My doctors think I have it so I'm curious as to how those with celiac have dealt with it and how restrictive their diet is. Thanks <3

I was diagnosed about 3 years ago. If you eat out a lot it can be quite restrictive since most restaurants have a very limited gluten-free menu and poor kitchen practices (meaning, they don't keep everything separate or change their gloves to prevent cross-contamination). I have had luck with a few restaurants though.

The hardest part is attending social events where there is food because there's rarely anything I can eat and even if other people cook gluten-free food at their homes, it's a high risk of cross-contamination from their kitchen. So, I just have to bring my own food if I want to be able to eat anything.

Ultimately, the safest thing is to just cook your own food at home and in that situation, it's VERY easy to eat gluten-free. Just stick to all-natural ingredients and fresh meats, vegetables, and fruits. Pretty much any food you love, you can alter to make gluten free yourself and sometimes, it tastes even better than the regular version. Wheat flour is in pretty much everything but there are some really great gluten-free alternatives on the market that match wheat flour 1:1 so it can work for all of your favorite recipes. :)

Thank you so much :) I already tend to eat gluten free just because it didn't sit well in my GI track so hopefully the adjustment isn't too bad if I have it. So basically my enemy is eating out which I don't do a lot of anyways, thanks!

Exactly. Like I said though, I've found some really good restaurants and haven't had any issues so far (Red Robin is great, they have gluten free hamburger buns) and a couple of other places but for the most part, eating at home is the safest thing. Hopefully it won't be too bad of an adjustment for you. :)

My boyfriend is celiac and while sometimes the diet is a bit restrictive it is not too bad. There is a gluten free version of all major recipes online, so that's a start :).

My mom doesn't have enzymes to digest gluten so she went gluten free. It worked well, she lost about 7 lbs.
