+1 yI would absolutely let me son and/or daughter play sports. My family was sexist and didn't let me play sports because I was female. But my brother was always offered the opportunity (but he had no interest). Even when I asked (since he didn't want to play, could I play?), they refused because they didn't want to pay for their daughter to play sports (I'm from a small community, with no free sports at the time I grew up :( ). They only wanted their son to be interested in sports. It was incredibly hurtful!
When I have kids, I want them to know that I support them in whatever they chose they want to do. So if that means my kids want to play sports, we are playing sports and I am going to make signs and cheer my face off for them!08 Reply- +1 y

I try not to, but it's hard when you grow up and you begin to realize how bad things really were. I've been frustrated my whole life growing up and am now just starting to realize why.
I get my parents are from a different time, very old-fashioned. They say a lot of problematic things, which I am always there to correct them and explain why it's problematic. But it just gets exhausting. I wish sometimes they would just get why saying certain things isn't okay. They deny ever doing that, but they definitely did. I'm doing my best to try and move past it. And I will definitely strive to be a better mom! - +1 y
I'm not a mom, I was the child in this situation. I grew up in a sexist household.

I would encourage my kids to place sports wife I had kids. Sports are a great way for kids to develop a lot of important life skills, have fun, stay healthy and develop confidence. I'd probably start them off in soccer or something and then let them decide for themselves if there's a particular team sport or other physical activity (dance, gymnastics, etc) that they'd prefer. I'd expect my kids, girls and or boys, to be enrolled in one physical activity at least tho as long as they're under my roof.

One thing that is guaranteed though is that they will be martial artists either being trained by actual masters or by me personally in both hand to hand and weaponry. As it instills discipline, endurance, strength and the ability to protect ones self.
As for sports in general if I can help it yes they will in them as competition breeds excellence.00 Reply

+1 yI love option D :P Regardless, as a feminist, if my son wants to play sports then he can play sports. If he doesn't want to, then he won't. I really don't care.
11 Reply Depends on the kid and the sport. I would full on say no, but if I have a shy, timid, small kid, football might not be the best idea so I'd recommemd against it. I'll always support them getting active regardless of gender (as long as it's safe)

Personality I would incurage him to take on anything my kid wanted to. I believe as a parent it is my job to encourage my kids to reach their goals and guide them to it. If a small timmid kid wants to play football 🏈 why not. I'll help him exercise to become physically stronger, learn to play as a team member do whatever it takes. I oppose discouraging my kids from what they choose. I help them understand what it takes to reach their goals. Never hold your children back
As a "so-called feminist" I let both my son and my daughters play sports because I oppose all things needlessly unfun.

No, it's not true.
Rumors like that are perpetuated by the same sort of pig-ignorant people who think that a Judeo-Masonic communist cabal run the media from a secret office in the basement of the Vatican, which is also where Obama's original Kenyan birth certificate has been safely hidden away from the prying eyes of red-blooded patriotic Americans.

Oh definitely. I think sport is extremely important for children's development and for giving them something wholesome and positive to do with their time and energy.
That's why one of the organizations I support financially each year is my local KidSport chapter. They are an organization that helps pay fees and buy equipment and cover travel and other costs for low income families to be able to put their kids in athletic programming. Hockey is huge in Canada but money is a huge barrier for many kids (it was to my brothers and I growing up so they never played til high school when they could pay for it themselves and by then they're were leagues behind in skills development. I never played at all other than pond hockey). - +1 y
I think it's both... I have always loved sports and have played soccer my whole life, plus started snowboarding and skateboarding in high school. I do these things because I love them. But when it comes to encouraging kids or other adults to get involved with sports it's because it is healthy and I care about them.
yes, he will need some physical activity on a regular basis. also getting to understand how competition works is good for his development.
