Girls, Anyone who has been involved in childbirth could you help me out?

My best friend was unfortunate in her choice of a man and she got pregnant and he ran off and left her alone.
She will be giving birth soon and has asked me to be there by her side when she gives birth so that she isn't alone (she doesn't really want her parents there until afterwards)

Its going to be a natural home birth with the help of a midwife.
Although im honored to do this im also terrified. I have no idea what to expect.
Yes i have been given some information on procedure etc but still not sure how its all going to go down.

Has anyone been involved wih this before?
Could you let me know what its like and what im going to have to do?
