For the first time, I got my period without knowing. I'm usually cramping and have other unpleasant symptoms that we all know but my period was surprisingly silent in announcing itself

I have had a serious love-hate relationship with periods. More accurately, love-hate-love-hate.
When they FIRST started... honestly? I was enthralled!
I grew up with nothing but men. Single father, 4 brothers. No mom no sisters no grandmothers. Closest female relatives were in Mexico. It was just me and boys boys boys.
And... ahha I discovered this weird magical power! Boys were actually AFRAID of... periods!
It was kinda cool, I won't lie. My first taste of just how strongly *womanhood* affected men -- for better or for worse.
... but then, they started to HURT.
From ages 13-22, my periods were AWFUL. The cramps were so bad that I spent entire days wrapped around a heating pad, throwing down Advil (and occasionally other painkillers) like candy.
The cramping was LITERALLY worse than labor pains. That's literally... as in, "all 3 of my childbirths were less painful". No epidurals, either.
When I went on birth control -- big huge whopping early-'90's doses, which were several times what's in today's bc pills -- that took the edge off the cramps a LITTLE... but only a little. Still bled it out every month during the "break" week (with the iron/placebo pills), and it still hurt *almost* as much.
The cramps mostly went away by mid-20's. Whatever residual pain was there, was completely gone after my first child was born.
Since then, my periods have been pretty much pain free -- except for the usual sensitivity toward the end, which isn't really "pain". It's just sensitivity.
Without the pain, they're actually... a VERY pleasant experience.
My skin is smoother. My moods are less flighty. My concentration is deeper. My appetite is more predictable, and the only cravings I have are for shitloads of vegetables (yes srsly). I get horny as hell -- and I married a man who's more than glad to take the edge off of that.
Also... I'm 41 years old. If I'm not officially "perimenopausal"... well, I'm close. I've probably got about 10 years left until all them periods are gone -- FOREVER.
That... that... I'm NOT looking forward to. I am really, really, really not looking forward to having my own body tell me that I'm an old woman with no fertility left.
It's ironic, because I used to HATE seeing periods for almost the same reason -- trying to have babies, and my body REALLY doesn't get pregnant easily, and every new period was another failure.
But now... I don't want them to stop, because I still want to FEEL "fertile". Ughh I should probably just get over it.
Tx for the MHLuv <3
Ummm not exactly in that sense.
I get PMS really bad and it makes me really crabby. I also experience really bad bloating and I'm just really uncomfortable before my period. So when I finally start, maybe like by the 2nd day I feel relief... It's weird.. like FINALLY this mother fucker is just getting it over with.
I almost never have cramps for some reason or another. Only once or twice in 5-6 years have I ever had cramps during my period
Mine has been amazing the last couple months. They have been super light and painless but the only bad thing is that they have been lasting for a longer.
Yeah, most of the time our bodies give us a warning in advance, and sometimes I have to "discover" that I'm on my period. I would say the last one I had was actually pleasant. Usually, I can't go without taking painkillers for them.
Mine are usually painless of course I have the occasional cramp but for the most part my periods aren't too bad. I just hate the flowing sensation down there and the bleeding of course
Yes. I have an extremely long cycle and I just can't wait to have them so I can get rid of PMS.
Never had cramps. I ate chocolate and Doritos, and went to bed early. It was fine.
It rarely bothers me, and other then the inconvenience, i dont really notice it.
no it has not mine are horrible when it comes to the pain like i barely sleep when i'm on it
Yeah I was ready for the unexpected hurricane any moment but it never came
NEVER. I get the cramps and headaches. All I wanna do is slleeeeepppp on my period. Unlike a lot of girls tho, I don't take it out on those around me or get in a bad mood.
