Does activated charcoal really whiten teeth?

I'm debating whether to buy some or not, but I can't tell if this is a cruel internet inside joke or something (So, I feel like I can't trust google).

Can any of you vouch for it's effectiveness at whitening teeth or am I being fucked with here? I don't understand how brushing your teeth with black residue can whiten your teeth. It seems contradictory, doesn't it?

I read a thread online about someone who had a bad experience with it and it discolored her teeth. So, I wouldn't recommend it. I would go with whitening strips that have excellent reviews online/from your peers. I wouldn't recommend them if your enamel is thin because it does just that, it whitens your teeth by removing a layer of enamel to remove the stains on top. So, you may accidentally create sensitivity in your teeth, which is not fun. Think about eating ice cream and your teeth hurting like hell. I would recommend switching to a finer toothbrush and buy organic toothpaste from whole foods or your nearby organic supermarket. Conventional toothpaste contains a lot of fillers and things that don't help remove all the plaque. Some organic toothpastes are also specialized to help whiten your teeth too. I would give it a shot before trying harsher products.

I just remembered, you can try whitening your teeth with coconut oil pulling. Natural remedies generally take longer to work than conventional products. Check it out.

they give u activated charcoal if you've drank too much alcohol. all it does is soak up poison in the stomach then make u have terrible shits. its pure black. dunno how u think it would whiten ur teeth. its fucking charcoal.

We use activating charcoal in the lab at my university for purification of solvents, I personally would not attempt to put anything like that anywhere near my mouth. Stick to whitening strips if you have to, or the best option would be to go to the dentist and see what they say, or can do for you
