Anonymous(36-45)+1 yWell, sorry, but it's a bit complicated. They haven't invented hangover cures yet; acetaldehyde dehydrogenase injections into the liver could work, but it'd be more trouble than it's worth. Prickly pear's also apparently endorsed as a treatment for one or two of the symptoms like nausea and lack of appetite, but it doesn't alleviate any of the other symptoms. Tolfenamic acid, aka 'Clotam' is also supported as a potential remedy. But there's no such thing as a cure.
On the other hand though, they have invented a drug called Antabuse which does the opposite, blocking the acetaldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde (the toxic chemical responsible for hangovers, which the liver breaks alcohol down into as an intermediate stage). Designed to fight alcoholism, this drug renders anyone who takes it completely incapable of ingesting any alcohol whatsoever without suffering the worst hangover imaginable- after taking this drug, acetaldehyde toxicity resulted in headaches and vomiting so bad that even the worst alcoholics were wary of their next drink.
So, I'm sorry, but your hangover cure just doesn't exist yet, and probably never will (unless you're willing to resort to extreme and radical measures, like getting an implant in your liver to boost your enzyme levels and ability to drink larger volumes of alcohol without getting a hangover). As a consolation though, if you really wanted to, you could get your hands on Antabuse, slip it into the drinks of whoever you're having your drinking contests with, and be quietly content in the knowledge that they'll suffer far, far worse hangovers than you will... 8)20 Reply

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yGrapefruit juice. Won't fix the whole thing , cleans your liver from toxins which are what is partly causing the hangover.
Invest in blackout curtains and sleep for a long time, avoid daylight as this will make it worse.
And drink plenty of water. More than usual12 Reply- +1 y
Grapefruit, check. Ta, dude!

The grapefruit was noticeably helpful!
Coconut water is a really good hang over cure, but if you don't have that just drink water, and lots of it since you're really dehydrated (which gives you a headache).
You can also drink a lot of water before you go to sleep to minimize your hangover when you wake up.10 Reply
Drink plenty of liquid (water, tea, ...) to hydrate your body and get rid of the toxins in your body. And the best way (but painful the first 10 minutes): go out and jog for 30 min to 1 hour (and don't forget to hydrate)

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yIn Ireland (a nation of alco's) we have long ago learned that a glass of prevention is worth a pint of cure.
Drink some milk before going on the lash, to slow the absorption. Drink a pint of water as your last drink of the night. Eat some banana. If you can't do the banana, take a potassium supplement. Pop an aspirin. Set your alarm for 3 hours from now. Go to sleep.
Wake up in 3 hours, you will need to hit the toilet. Drink some more water. Have some more banana. (Or another potassium supplement). Go back to sleep for as long as needed.
When you wake up, you'll be relatively hangover free, and ready to face a full Irish breakfast.
If you have missed out on the prevention steps, and woke up with a splitting headache, the absolute best thing you can take is Andrews Liver Salts. Stuff works like magic. Make a pint of it, and drink it down. It's like having a second liver working to metabolise the alcohol in your system.11 Reply- +1 y
Thank you for the venerable Irish wisdom! I'll be totally giving that a burl next time - I'm sure you guys know what you're talking about!
+1 yScience is fun. So what causes hangovers? It's partially the lack of water - alcohol is a strong dehydration agent. That's why people are saying to drink water. It does help, but you should do it as you drink, because it'll slow down your drinking. What's that? You're hard core? No slowing down? Ok, in that case, you'll still need to keep up that water intake, but you can put it off until you're done drinking. I've heard of all kinds of "magic" cures through the years, but it's a mixture of dehydration and dependence. It's why alcoholics drink first thing in the morning. Their brain is so conditioned to the alcohol if they don't they'd get delirium tremors.
10 ReplyI don't even dare to drink much unless I have a joint ready to go in the morning. Just a couple hits and the nausea and headache is gone within seconds.

I can't believe people are saying drink water, it might sound like a good idea but yoy are pretty much guaranteed to vomit very quickly, especially if it's cold and causes your stomach to contract. At night it might prevent a hangover from getting worst but in the morning and you're already hung over it will just make it worst.

Your green theory is intriguing and compelling! Definitely trying that one next time... it'll be more fun than exercising, at the very least!

+1 yI am afraid not, only sleep and water are best cures - You can speed up process with loads of water, you don't sound up for it but a hard exercise session with loads of sweating would help also.
