The finger is also twitching uncontrollably when I push it down but it doesn't hurt unless I poke it.
There are a number of things that can cause involuntary twitching of not just the fingers, but the legs, or eyes as well. These include overuse, vitamin deficiency, dehydration, certain meds, and certain diseases like Parkinsons, etc.
Seeing as you noticed this particularly after boxing, the red patch, especially if it's painful to the touch, could just be an injury sustained while boxing or the result of something constantly rubbing against the skin, like gloves or guards, compounded by you hitting something or someone else causing further injury. Rest it, ice it.
As far as the twitching, it's very common for many people to experience twitching and it is usually no cause for concern. Check your diet to see that you are not overly deficient in things like calcium and potassium, make sure you are getting 8 hours rest, and that you are giving yourself a chance to rest the muscles to avoid overuse of the hands. If the twitching and/or pain continues on through to say next week with proper rest/diet, or you begin to constantly notice it or lose control at any point of the actual functioning of your hands, i. e. you drop things or cannot pick something up, then absolutely head to your doctor asap!
One more thing, the patch might actually be the result of what is called a boxers fracture which is a break in the hand at the "neck" (just below the knuckle) of either the fourth or fifth metacarpal (ring or little finger). It commonly occurs when punching an immovable object with a closed fist. If this is you, you would or could have had instant pain coupled with hand swelling, an area on the hand which is tender to the touch, difficulty moving the affected fingers and of course discoloration of the skin and/or bruising. If this is you, see a doctor. The recovery time on this is unfortunately a long one between 6-10 weeks, but you don't want to not go because it's not going to get better by ignoring the pain.
Okay, thank you :) I wear wraps under my gloves, but I use the same method of wrapping on both hands but it's only on my right hand which is my dominant hand, could that be because I punch harder with my right arm?
My diet is good, very balanced (except high protein) and I have everything I need. I've also noticed my whole arm feels a bit twitchy, could it have been rubbing a nerve?
(Also incase it's useful I have nerve damage in my arm pit on the same side of my body from shingles)
It's a little swollen but it's fine to put pressure though and everything so I don't think there's any fracture
It may be an overuse injury then or the result of poor form. If you are experiencing constant pain, or numbing or things just generally get worse in the next few days, SEE YOUR DOCTOR. I would definitely lay off the boxing for a while until it heals and make sure you are icing it down and stop poking it!
But poking it is fun :P I'll ask my mum/dad in the morning, they're both doctors but it's 1am at the moment so my mums asleep (dad lives in a different place) and was wanting a quick opinion :P tbh the pain is gone now just still has that red patch and is a bit stiff. I hope it's gone by the morning :P thanks for your help
A hematoma? I don't know what else it could be if it doesn't hurt much and you can move it
It hurts if I press it, but the weirdest thing is that the whole finger twitches up and down
Yeah I was just wondering if anyone had had it before cos I know a couple people on here box too
Hope so too haha
We're you wearing boxing gloves? Try to be safer next time
Gloves and wraps
How hard U punching then broe
If U were punching pretty hard I'd say it's not as serious
Yeah I was punching pretty hard, not quite 100% but not too far off
I'd say don't worry about it too much. But definitely monitor it and if the pain is still there when you like it and if it still twitches after a few weeks go see a docduh
Yeah, the picture was around 12 hours ago and I've been asleep since and the twitching is still there but the red and faded and bit and turned purple
Yeah don't make assumptions from the fading of a mark on the surface of your skin because it's what's going on under that can cause major problemos
True, but it doesn't hurt too much anymore so I'm sure it'll be fine :P
Yeah man just don't start boxing till it's fully healed tho
What was that? Workout and boxing again this evening? Yeah I agree :P haha
: I'm gonna cum there and break your arms off for not listening
That's a risk I'm willing to take, gym is love, gym is life
Ur gonna have to get used to working out without arms then
Leg day :P

Don't punch with your outer knuckles
I didn't really, mainly with middle knuckle, but my gloves basically make it a flat surface so can't pick and choose which knuckles
