More often than not a lot of people with lots of extra body fat tend to lack muscle mass from my understanding, and if they just lean down through nutrition I would expect more of them to look closer to the version below than above post-transformation. It's a rarer case typically for someone with lots of body fat to have lots of muscle underneath unless they were quite physically active the whole time.
Well, people can carry lots of fat and still be incredibly strong and athletic, like sumo wrestlers as an extreme example (not only can they overhead press tremendous amounts of weight, but they can also move fast and are quite agile for their size). But more often than not, I think most people who carry lots of body fat become so as a result of the poorest nutrition and sedentary lifestyles... muscle mass isn't going to magically appear in those cases underneath the fat.
Yes it would be, but there could be loose skin if they were obese to start with.
You see the muscular after photos because that's considered more impressive to most people. Also because people turn unhealthy addictions into positive ones so instead of eating they work out

I know a fat guy who later became muscular.
That's always the result. But is it possible for them to be lean?
In high school I knew a fat guy who later slimmed down.
Possible
