The word “gym” is loosely used to refer to any physical exercise done within the walls of a fitness center. “CrossFit” is a sport and a training method based on gymnastics, weight training, and cardio

I do my own advanced calisthenics regimen every other day, and have done CrossFit before. The thing with CrossFit that people don't say is the high occurrence of injuries. Now I have never seen weights fall on someone, but I have injured my wrist once and a lot of people report back and knee injuries too. The rule here is DON'T GET TOO AHEAD OF YOURSELF, especially in the beginning. Fast as possible doesn't mean do everything like Usain Bolt! Its okay to lose a competition instead of having a bad injury.
Injuries are quite common at gyms too, but then again as you said gym is a broad term, while CrossFit is a very specific form for training. My personal regimen basically covers all that CrossFit does in terms of mobility and endurance.
CrossFit. A friend owns one. As he said of the bodybuilding and gym idea it's just a bunch of meatheads making too much noise trying to attract a desperate woman and a bunch of desperate women in tight spandex, etc. trying to attract the dimwitted meatheads nowadays.
With CrossFit you actually work out. At your level. But meatheads and desperate dimbos are not common.
I tried both and love both concepts but crossfit requires a full time commitment to see results, since it's focus is on lean and shredded but functional muscles you have to combine it with a lot of cardio, a strict diet, a lot of sleep, supplement... just doing it on it's own would yield litte to no results.
Gym on the other hand is slightly more forgiving, you still need to take extra care of yourself if you want lasting results but even if you don't have time or your life is too busy for a strict diet you still see improvement and your figure becomes a lot better.
(I really miss the gym 😕)
It really depends on the cross fit gym. Cross fit has a really high injury rate bc amazingly lifting a heavy weight above your head quickly as many times as you can usually leads to injury.
I've heard some of them are good but most are terrble and will probably lead to you injuring yourself.
But try crossfit if you fancy it never know you might enjoy it to the point where the injuries are worth it or you might find a place that isn't trying to kill you.
Not gonna lie cross fit is kind of a joke in the fitness community.

I just want him slim to average and fit. No need for abs and veiny buff arms and all that. Bodybuilding freaks me out and crossfit is overdoing it. He can workout from home so gym isn't even necessary especially during covid times
I mean cross is better in terms of gaining muscle and flexibilty but i think the gym is better for simply being able to do what ever you want in terms of weights. Cross fit has you do a certain amount of workouts while the gym allows you to choose what to do.
I've done crossfit several times and I really enjoy it a lot.
Crossfit just seems like bigger games to hurt yourself
More of a static power guy, never been agile and likely never will be why bother
gym. cause people who go to the gym, at least can manage to shut up about the fact that they're going to the gym for 5 minutes xD
Just look at crossfit "pullups".
Gym is just a tool, it's up to you how you use it.
Gym!
Crossfit usually has horrible form and will give you injuries in the long run.
I paid 1000s for a trainer and he just had me do mar work. Planking, burpees, leg lifts.
I say cross fit is better for endurance.
