In the moment, any rest is better than no rest, so make an effort to just lie comfortably with your eyes closed. If you end asleep, so be it, if not, fine too.

tell myself to stop drinking tea so late in the day, stop looking at computer screen late in day, use a "red filter on computer and phone, write down the stuff in my head so it's on paper and I'm not thinking about it.
Sometimes I’ll get up and do some cleaning and stuff around the house. But most the time I don’t have the energy or motivation for that at 3am so I’ll just lay there and stare at my screen to pass the time.

I get out of bed. I do not make my bed a battleground for sleep issues. I also don't obsess over lack of sleep. I consider each hour of sleep a gift. Just the other night I did not sleep well. I just got up and had a little coffee and moved ahead. The next night I slept very well.
If you go around thing you missed 2 hours of sleep, that is a negative thought and will make your whole day negative. Be thankful and positive.If I can't get to sleep, or wake up and can't get back to sleep, I usually get up and watch a video and eat some cereal. Often, the food makes me tired enough to go to sleep after an hour or so.
I listen to an audio book, specifically a novel. I set the timer for fifteen minutes. I'm usually asleep within five minutes.

I’ve slept crap since last week.
i hate being in bed and not able to sleep so I just get up.I read on an e-ink reader with no backlight, under a warm toned light. Gotta avoid those blue wavelengths (they wake you up!), which means no TV, phone, computer, etc.
I lie in bed and stare at the ceiling. I try to think of pleasant things. This is a typical night for me.
Well, I start working or studying until I start feel sleepy again.
I take a hot shower and drink a glass of warm milk. It works always.
What you're supposed to do is exercise but no one wants to do that.
I don't know that's pretty much every night for me I either can't fall asleep or I'll wake up 2-4 times during the course of the night.

If you are trying to sleep - do not pickup your phone or watch TV as it stimulates your brain more.Drink hot milk and put honey in it and take a melatonin pill

Try to sleep for an hour or two. Then give up and read, watch TV work, learn, go for a walk. Or just the joys of listing to my own rather joyful thoughts.
