Why aren't there mandatory swimming lessons at all schools?

It's important that children learn to swim so they don't drown.

maintaining a pool is a lot of money. plus a lot of insecure children and teens may feel very uncomfortable in a skimpy bathing suit. plus, a lot more body-shaming could happen if you're seen in such skimpy clothes. and you know, children can be quite brutal so this may cause serious self esteem issues.

Some schools do not have pools.
Our park and rec department has them at a lake in the summer, but it is optional, not mandatory.

Also, what situations would kids be in where they would drown? Unless of course, there’s some sort of massive school shooting and the school is over water or something like that as you would see in an 1980s action movie

@Dinosaursandanime65 i mean, knowing how to swim is a useful skill but unless you're going to the beach or whatever it probably wouldn't be that important. also if you don't know sines, cosines, or tangent, then you're lucky. in most places, it's a 10th grade standard. i got into advanced math, so unfortunately i have to suffer. but basically you use it to find missing side lengths/angles in triangles usually. it's very painful and difficult

We had them in England. The school would hire a bus to a pool some distance away. No excuse for any country not to teach swimming.

Not every school has a pool or a lifeguard, not every student has a bathing suit and not all schools can buy school sets, and that's a huge liability issue. Plus, not everyone likes swimming.

If you are a parent of a child and think it's good that they know how to swim.. YOU get them lessons.

Besides, they should be taught to swim before school age.
