    My recommendation is slow and steady but not in terms of pounds lost. Unless you're a bodybuilder trying to preserve maximum muscle mass on a cut, I don't think it matters whether you lose 1lbs a week or 5lbs a week.

    By slow and steady, I mean lifestyle changes. Don't throw out your favorite foods overnight. Don't train like a maniac if you aren't used to training like one. Just do slightly better starting today. Identify your worst habits, like if you drink a lot of sugary drinks, try to ween those out. Get used to that, then apply another iteration of small improvements.

    This makes it so weight loss requires minimum willpower. You generally don't want to make weight loss seem like it requires tons of willpower. Even champions run out of willpower. A champion's willpower is something you summon here and there to go the final distance, not try to summon all day long. Try to make your weight loss journey require as little willpower as small.

    Just small things: like hamburgers? Maybe you can substitute buns with lettuce-wrapped burgers. Or maybe swap the fries for a side salad, the soft drink for an unsweetened ice tea or just water. Every little compromise you can sustain will reflect on your body over time.

    This also sets you up for life because you'll generally need more small tweaks as you get older. It's a long route but it can still result in fairly rapid weight loss depending on how fast you can adapt your lifestyle tweaks.

      I don't recommend CiCo-style for most people but if you want to go that route, I recommend a tweak. Instead of trying to estimate your caloric output/expenditure in a TDEE calculator, just measure how many calories you intuitively eat. Say that's 3000 calories/day. The TDEE calculator might want you to eat 1700. Let's not go there immediately! How about start at 2700 calories/day? If you can stick to that for a couple of weeks straight and be happy, dial it down to 2400, and so on. This gives you the proper transition to get used to and fall in love with the new lifestyle you're gradually adopting, not adopting all at once and just trying to endure it.

      The most neglected thing I find in the fitness and health industry is psychology. They treat people like they're machines where you just prescribe something and get them to stick to it for potentially the rest of their lives. That's not the challenge to prescribe something that works. The challenge is to prescribe something people can stick with and enjoy reasonably well. That needs a proper transition.
