Yeah, it's the most likely explanation. The metabolism change hits you at that age and until adjustments are made to diet and perhaps also exercise routines, most people gain weight. If she is careful about what she eats, she may be able to lose some of that weight.

Selena appears to be an endomorph so as she ages she will probably struggle to avoid some weight gain. It's just nature taking it's course. Mariah Carey might be an indicator of future developments.
