Do you shower before you take a bath?

Question

I take a bath twice a day. Once in the morning and once before I go to bed. I exfoliate, use body scrub, and I use two different soaps. This guy I had over was taking a shower in my tub and he’s like “why don’t you have a shower curtain” to which I replied “I don’t need one because I only take baths” he made it seem like the grossest thing in the world and I had no idea that people shower before they take a bath. I know taking a bath is seen as gross cause you’re “sitting in your own dirt” but I’m not dirty. We argued about this for 10 minutes. I had no idea that people take a shower before taking a bath.

I do it the other way around. I take a bath then turn on the shower to rinse.

I started taking baths about 8-10 years ago. I put on a music CD and kick back and relax. I'm retired and not in a hurry to get anywhere, so taking my time in the bath is kind of a luxury.

Yea, some people don't like soaking in "dirty" water. But I feel much cleaner taking a bath than when I took a shower. If you have really dirty clothes, you don't just rinse them out under the faucet. You put them in the washer and let them soak for a while. Same with dishes. If they are rally dirty you let them soak.

Any dirt in the water has already been loosened up and removed. It's not going to go back on you. Then you rinse it off and towel dry. It just feels much cleaner to me.

I have a Japanese student. A couple for weeks ago I asked her if she missed Japan. She said no, but she misses the food and Japanese baths. They sit on a seat and clean completely, then rinse completely before getting in the bath. The bath is not for cleaning, it's for relaxing.

I shower to cleanse and bathe to relax. Everyone is dirty. Baths are dirtier than showers. There are benefits to both. Baths are relaxing! And they’re going to be better if you tend to have drier skin. Some people don’t understand that they’re throwing money away on “moisturizing” soaps and washes if they’re just rinsing them down the drain. Ell oh ell! But showers remove more dirt, oil and micros. If you value true cleanliness, showers are superior. You can do both, alternating as needed. But don’t fix what ain’t broke. If baths are working for you, keep on keeping on. There’s also no need to argue about it though. I would get a shower curtain as a courtesy to him and other potential guests. But you’re each allowed your own preferences. There’s no right and wrong. Agree to disagree.

Taking a bath or shower is good for hygiene, but twice a day and using a lot of soap is very bad for your skin and health. It destroys the protective layer on your skin. If it is too hot and you need to clean more than once, just use a water shower.

I don’t bath, just shower and I don’t even remember how you keep the bath water at a stable temperature since it’s been so long. As a kid I used bubble baths but our new home has a broken tub that would need over $10,000 to realign.

I do t take baths that often, but if I want one, I would wash my hair and wash my body with cool water first before I fill the tub with mildly scalding water. Then when it’s about 1/3 full, I pour in some body wash and a little bit of shampoo. Then when I submerge my body into the bubbles, I wash my hair again. But I’m sure a bubble bath would be a lot more enjoyable if you have jets, a loofah, a full bottle of shampoo and someone to share it with. I’m mostly a shower person, my dad is mostly a shower person, my sister is a shower person 100% and my mom is mostly a bath person. Showering with cool water before taking a warm bath helps to balance body temperature and it boosts your immune system.

I believe the Japanese do this also, and really, not a bad idea to wash off 'body oils' loose scalp hair, et cetera. I have done this on occasion, because I wanted to 'soak' for a period and did not want to soak in 'dirty' bath water. Only practical if you have the time. Most usually, I shower, Period.

What was the guy doing in your tub? Hanky Panky? I let drain up , so the dirt gets sucked out , yes that means more water used but it solves that problem.

There is not much difference between taking a bath and taking a shower. While taking a bath is washing in detail, taking a shower is just getting in and out of the water. Why take a shower before taking a bath? It is also a good thing to have a shower curtain or a shower cabin, because it prevents the cold.

I only shower. Baths are only good with another person. That and well they are kind of ick if you think about it. Because all the stuff you clean off goes right into the water you are sitting in. So you only end up cleaning some of it off.

I like the thought of women bathing versus showering more than guys doing it. In my adult life; I have showered once a day for most days of the week, I have bathed once. It is not in my humble opinion normal for a grown man to bathe unless he's bathing with his significant other. Just my opinion.

Also, 2 baths are really excessive. It's a waste of water. You need to take either one bath, or a shower, and they say to do it EVERY OTHER DAY, otherwise it's too much

It depends. If it's been very hot or active then yes I would shower first to be clean and the. The bath to relax. But like you I tend to wash twice a day at least as hygiene is very important to me. But I do make an effort to take care of myself with some of the sorts of stuff that you use. I do use a moisturizer so my skin doesn't end up dry and stuff like that.

I don't take baths, they are outdated and obsolete. You can get urinary tract infections from taking a bath. If you submerse a wound in water it can lead to an infection. Better off taking a shower.
