The more we think, the less likely we'll sleep. You want to put all specific information out of your focus. Just picture yourself floating on a soft warm cloud whose shape is constantly evolving... too vague to be identified... leaving nothing to focus on other than the comfort you are feeling.
One problem we have with sleep is maintaining patterns we developed as toddlers. If you observe a toddler as bedtime approaches, you'll see behavioral changes. Their energy will appear to increase. Even when we can't tell time, we still have an internal clock that tells us bedtime is approaching. We know we'll fall asleep if we relax, and we don't want to miss anything, so we increase our energy output to stay awake. Eventually, we become so exhausted, we just crash. Once we crash, we can be picked up and tossed around and will sleep right through it. If we continue this pattern as adults, we will rush around doing things till it is bedtime. Then, we lay down and expect to sleep... but our body and mind remain active. Take time to provide yourself with a transition period between awakeness and sleep. Without that transition, all aspects of sleep tend to be challenging, and we won't wake refreshed in the morning.
Go to YouTube and search for ASMR. It is very relaxing and will easily put you to sleep. You can also use white noise, if you find that more relaxing.
