What do you think of short men getting a leg lengthening surgery?

Both my parents are short, and when I was a teen I unfortunately never experienced any growth spurt. I ended up topping out at 5'.7 1/2" barefoot because my growth plates closed prematurely.

I'm now a 21 year old white. I am not a midget/dwarf, just relatively short due to the unlucky genetic lottery. It's extremely bad since I have always been the shortest guy among my male relatives. As a 5'7 1/2" male, I just have to accept that I belong to the short people. A whole lot of girls also generally think this is short for a male.

My only option to fix this would be to get a limb lengthening procedure, which would bring me to maximum 5'11 1/2". While 5'11 1/2" is still not considered tall for a male in most Western countries, it is taller than about 97% of women and would increase my dating options. Right now the only girls shorter than me are 5'6" and below. And being below 5'9" is brutal enough for a male. Being able to say 5'11 1/2" sounds so much better than 5'7 1/2". Also at 5'11 1/2", I just put on some sport shoes and I am 6'0"! :D

The downside/risk is that I might never fully recover though and could be barred from playing some kind of sport forever if the surgery doesn't go well. It's a risk but it's something I'm considering doing. Do you think it is worth getting this procedure for someone who is my height? Thanks

I was quite LITERALLY thinking about this all week!

I'm only 180 cm (71 inches) barefoot, waking up, which means throughout the day, due to spinal compression (which happens to everyone), I lose about 2 centimeters, which puts me down to 178.5 cm (70 inches). I hate BOTH of those super-sh*tty heights, as both are less than 183 (six feet tall) and neither are good, whatsoever. Yes, I do know both Imperial and Metric; it's just less embarrassing to use centimeters rather than feet and inches.

I've said pretty much the same exact things you have on here. Even wrote MyTakes on it. The only thing I disagree with you on, is that you want to "upgrade" to an extremely sh*tty height in itself, 182 cm. Also, it would NOT increase your dating options. It is still Failure. Look here at this chart. It changes almost nothing from 172 cm to 182 cm.

If you're going to upgrade, then at least upgrade to something "not short," or else, the leg lengthening is COMPLETELY pointless and you won't feel happy with it. Most men I know are f*ckin' taller than 182 cm! Also, it would only make you taller than 94% of women, not 97%, and that 6% is still HUNDREDS of women, if not thousands, in any given city. Meaning, 1 out of 20 women on the street will still be your height or taller. That adds up pretty fast. That height is also only 64th percentile, meaning a whopping 34% of men are still taller than you! That's one out of three!

To put it in other words, you're upgrading to a sh*tty height that's still Failure and not good enough for women in general. I've collected all the memes to prove it.

This is how society sees me right now and I'm technically three and a half inches taller than you (or three inches, at the end of the day). It literally does NOT matter. It changes NOTHING with women. This is why, unlike useless people, I don't use mediocrity as a measuring stick for anything. Meaning, I don't say the word "average." Failure. Uselessness. It means nothing. You either win, or you're a failure. And your current height, as well as your post-surgery height, as well as my height, are all failures in the eyes of society.

Like I said, $100K and a year of recovery, is not worth it just to be slightly less short. And more mediocre/useless in society, for that matter. At least 171 cm is more special and unique than being some 175 to 182 garbage, throw-away, super-common, super-valueless man. I'd argue being rare and short, is more valuable than being common and short, which is what you'd be downgrading to, post-surgery. The only hypothetical benefits you'd get, are with women but you'd still be short by an inch, so it doesn't even matter. But at least you have speed and agility at your current height and size.

So to summarize, yes, I one-hundred-f*cking-percent would do this surgery myself, if it meant I could reach the height I was supposed to be prior to Precocious Puberty, which is 195 cm, or 6'5". Hell, I'd even take 185/6'1", if it was post-spinal compression at the end of the day, and I was more like 187 waking up.

But for you? No, it is not worth it to get your legs broken to go from "super short" to "kinda short." If you're not at least 184 cm at the end of the day bare foot, you're not "upgrading" to jack sh*t. I'm only 1 to 2 cm shorter than your perspective height, and I GUARANTEE YOU I f*cking loathe my height way more than you do. At least you likely weren't the same height since ten years old.

Again, you can go read that MyTake, among others, if you think I'm happy being "slightly short" and only one inch below the minimum acceptable standard. Failure is still failure and women don't want "slightly short" men anymore than super-short men.

TL;DR: Unless you're ending up over six feet tall barefoot, don't waste the time and pain to only end up being "less short" but still smaller than every guy around you. From one short dude to another, I hope this helps.

5ft 7-1/2in is not that short. My father was 5-4, and the stories he told me about the women he dated before he got married... wow.

Personally, I wouldn't risk the surgery. I'd be proud of who and what I am, and work with that. The women who wouldn't date you because of your height are shallow and probably not good long-term partners anyway.

Look to date women who are shorter, or who really don't care about your height. I'm sure there are many out there to choose from. Best wishes.

Ok that’s super silly. Not even kidding. Never heard this one before. Who cares. Don’t let that get to you. Girls care about your financial wealth more than height. Moral of the story. Just get well off. And for sure one will come. Also there’s plenty of short girls around 5’2 ish. Sounds like a good match

I seriously doubt they can do it surgically. The only method I know of is to break your legs and then make it so the joins are at least an inch apart so that, when the bone grows back together, you'll be an inch taller. You'd also have to have both halves of both legs broken. And for what? So you can have a better chance of hitting your head on shit? So you can't fit into clothes, houses or cars anymore? So people an ask you if you play basketball?
