Women, what has your experience been like with OB/GYN healthcare?

I have heard from some women that they have not had good experiences with their OB/GYN care. Some of them have children and others do not. Personally, I like my doctor but scheduling is always a nightmare as there seems to be a shortage of women’s health providers in my area.

Some things I’ve heard mentioned by women were that they felt rushed, dismissed, not heard, or not taken seriously when they expressed concerns regarding their reproductive and overall health. I’m curious about how common this is and if it is very common, why? Feel free to leave an opinion with your experiences or just vote in the poll. 😊

I had fairly mixed experiences. I've had some gynecologists that have been too rushed or insensitive about things at times. I've had other that have been really great. I've even had nurse practitioners and other non ob/gyn doctors such as family practice doctors that have provided excellent women's health care.

Pretty negative overall and I've seen a lot of different doctors cuz of being pregnant so many times in different states. They all act like they don't give a shit about their jobs/just trying to rush to the next patient type of thing. Only had 1 good doc out of around 20ish that I've seen

My girlfriend went yesterday and was quite pleased with results and the care that her woman obgyn gives her.

We don't have designated ob/gyn here, any issues go through your gp same with pap smears. I've never really had any issues, the only one I can think of is a Dr trying to convince me to get onto a different birth control despite me saying I wasn't interested. But she didn't push after that one meeting.

Mixed. Nothing too bad, but a lot lied about hysterectomy and laws regarding it that don't exist.

Ah that’s interesting. I haven’t heard of any laws regarding that but I did hear one women complain that a doctor refused to do her hysterectomy even though she was having severe pain and symptoms. That’s so awful.

They told me I couldn't do it unless I was married, I had to wait until I was older and had kids, had to get my husband's permission etc. Despite the fact I told them I wouldn't be marrying, I DONT want kids and I was dating a woman. Got tired of them lying, and eventually found one willing to do it

It's rare that doctors care in the USA. You need nurses like @SecretsofKB if you want any competence or compassion

Oh wow, I’d be pissed if I was told I needed my husbands permission for ANY medical procedure…the audacity of some people! I’m glad you were able to find a more helpful doctor.

@Agape93 Aww! The unfortunate thing is that most doctors are so busy that they forget to care... too common honestly.

But the ol' "I'm gay" Response is always a fun one when they ask if I have any chance of getting pregnant...

Understandable, you’re still young. If you aren’t sexually active, the recommended age to start receiving Pap tests (the standard screening for cervical cancer) is 21 and then if there are no abnormalities, every 3 years.
