My ex girlfriend I had dreaded going to the doctor for her cervical smear test for the fact she was going to get poked & proded in her vagina and felt it very intrusive and awkward.

Only thing I can ask is if she has experienced any sexual trauma? In my opinion her responses are not the norm. Sure most women dread it. No one likes having a medical doctor staring at your vulva or putting their fingers into your vagina. BUT I personally don't know how she can sleep at night knowing that her cervix could or uterus could be a ticking time bomb to cancer. Cervical cancer is a silent killer in that you don't know you have it until you are in the late stages and practically eating up with cancer. If she has not been sexually assaulted then she needs to put on her big girl panties and woman up. Another thing is if she is close to your age she is LONG overdue for a baseline mammogram, for which she should have had at 35 and one every year after 40. I just went for my yearly gynecologist visit. I was in the stirrups less than 5 minutes. I have a female doctor and she had a nurse with her when she did the pap smear or scraped my cervix for cells to apply to the glass side to be tested for cancer. Also with a great percentage of the population having HPV, having HPV more than doubles the chances that a woman will get cervical cancer. So, again apparently her head is in the wrong place because if I were her I would be petrified I could have cancer and not know it until its too late. Please let her read my response.

I get really bad anxiety. I try to stay totally present and remind myself that it's my doctor and it's for my health. I have a female gynecologist. I didn't like it coz he was little rough. Like I was laying with my legs apart, he came spread my lips inserted the tools and buds to check and stuff and within few minutes done.

It's not really a big deal for me, it isn't too awkward or embarrasing at all.
I have never been touched inappropriately, but then I only visit female gynecologists because I dread being seen by a man that isn't my partner.
