Can a single animal bat be in your house and you not know it?

Yes, I have two instances where that happened. Both times as a kid...

The first time was when my dad was doing some laundry and he looked into the washing machine and saw something inside, so he grabbed it thinking it was a sock stuck to the side of the tub and it started shrieking. lol He closed the lid, got some leather work gloves, grabbed it and then released it outside.

The second time was when I was in bed and I kept hearing a scuffling noise under my bed. At the time we had a mouse problem for a few months (the only time we ever had an issue), so I thought it was just a mouse that was under my bed. It kind of freaked me out, but eventually it stopped making noise and I was able to fall asleep. The next day me and my dad spent all day together and we didn't get back home until nighttime, and when we got through the door my mom was like, "There's a bat in the house! You need to get it out of here!" Apparently, my mom had walked by my room and heard a scuffling, so she turned on the light and a bat started flying around the room, so in a panic she closed the door until my dad came home to deal with it. Apparently, he caught it as it was hanging by the blinds between the blinds and the window and he could see it's silhouette. He trapped it with a fishing net and released it outside. So, little did I know, that scuffling under my bed was actually a bat that had gone under there, most likely because it was dark and secluded.

However, the reason why they got inside is because me and my brother would always prop open the side door to take our bikes in and out of the basement to go riding. My parents would also prop that door open to take the lawn mower in and out too (we lived in an apartment at the time and didn't have a shed). That door got used a lot, and sometimes it was open for 30 seconds or so, so that's how we figured they got in.

Inside your house? Not likely or you would see it flying around looking for bugs when it got hungry. If you do, I bet it hides in the coocoo clock
