+1 yWithout any preparation or training, on average, about 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 minutes. My longest was about 4 minutes and 30 seconds. I've never done any breath hold training though. If I did I could probably get into the 6s or maybe beyond. Hard to say.

I just timed myself and did 2 minutes and 32 seconds. I always seem to hit somewhere between the 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 minute mark.

+1 yWhen I was around 18 some fellow students and I did such a test. I was able to reach 3 minutes inactive sitting on a chair, without cheating. Now, at 69 years of age, when I go swimming I always start with a full length underwater 20 to 25 meter distance, the latter being the length of the pool. I guess that must be about 1 minute swimming apnea.

+1 yIts hard to do so when thinking about it. But if it ever came down to needing to do so to survive then i can

I just tried to and i got 2 minutes and 6 seconds. My lips started burning from trying to hold em shut 🤣 but the way i survived even that long was by calming myself, breathing out of my nose and closing my eyes halfway through. I feel like as a kid i could do 4-6 mins but i really dont remember

Its odd but i always felt like i breathe through my eyes. I dont feel like im suffocating with my mouth or nose covered but cover my eyes and i panic
+1 y1 minute 31 seconds. Starting to feel bad for the person I'm sitting on. Juuust a little.

Haha! That is pretty good though! I mean I can see that getting boring pretty quick though.
+1 yWhen I was younger and into Scuba Diving and working as a lifeguard/swim instructor at the beach, I would practice all the time and got up to around 3 minutes or so.
These days likely 2 minutes.

🤣🤣 I'll have to try again later. I need practice.
- +1 y
That makes two of us. Maybe I'll curl up in a corner and keep practicing. After some more sleep, I'll probably keep trying at work and see how long.

I got to 50 seconds then got interrupted. Lol
+1 yJust over a minute I really need to give up smoking lol

It's not too bad but it's definitely gone downhill
If I'm underwater it's much longer than if I'm in a horsebarn.

The trick is to shut your mind off. Seriously... shit works.
- +1 y
Yeah... timed and everything with my head underwater. I think the trick of just shutting the mind down is the way that I do it. If I sit there thinking my body starts needing oxygen faster... If I don't think at all though...
Other than that... re-breath the air you took in before going underwater. That would be the only advice I could give on it. That's what I do when I really just want to go back up for air. Turn that brain off from panicking (AKA thinking) and just pretend everything is normal.
Hyperventilating is something that helps a lot as well. Breathe a lot before a dive until you feel like you're high.

Around the same time. But a bit more. My dad made me take the breath holding test to make sure my SPO2 was good when COVID was at its peak.
He checked with the machine eventually, but the holding test was a good indicator.
Even better was taking a huge breath and recounting alphabets followed by numbers. The more you counted, the better.
