Steve Jobs resigns from Apple?

As Steve Jobs resigns, it makes me think: would you ever walk away from a success (such as Apple) if you felt you were "finished"? I realize his departure is due to illness, but how many of you have been in a similar situation? or what would you do if you were?

the man stays true to his word. Yes if I had pancreatic cancer and a liver transplant (whos patients by the way live for about another 2 years) step down and hand it to someone I personally felt would be able to handle the job. No way would I want to stay CEO and then die and have it up in teh air who would take over my throne...he did a good job throughout the years and is genious. I only own iphones, no apple computers (personal prefernce)...so I think what he did was smart...

You didn't get the whole story. He is stepping down as CEO but will still be the chairman and director of the company. So basically he is just giving someone else his title and his busy work. I don't think it is so much do to illness or he would have just said so. Believe me he is nowhere near walking away, he is still very much involved, and will still be making a ton of money.

Whether he left at the right time we can't say for sure. However, there was a beautifully written article by him that suggested life is just more than that. He did what works best for him. Without health, you have absolutely nothing.

The work that he has done is undeniable. He revolutionized more than just the technology industry.

I walk away from things all the time when I feel I'm done with them. There is no purpose staying with something you don't think calls for your time. Time is a precious thing.

He already had it taken away from him once. I mean he basically built the successful Apple from the ground up twice. If it were my decision, I'd much rather make the decision myself and do it on my terms rather than letting the board take it away from me.

Could care less. maybe now they will have someone in charge who realizes that 30 dollars worth of parts does not make an upgraded model worth $350 more than the one below it.

Or that a shiny case does not make a computer faster. Or Simply suing anyone who makes a product similar to yours so that they can't make any sells is bull crap. Especially if the product preforms better and the company behind it are the ones you buy the parts to make your products from.

I don't think he's leaving because he thinks his work there is done. And I definitely don't think he's leaving because he feels he's made "enough" money. Pretty sure he's leaving because he realizes his cancer is going to kill him sooner rather than later and he'd like to spend his final days doing other things.

he made a smart choice to give up his position to someone he feels he could trust. With his previous illnesses and current conditions it would make sense of someone in his position to step down before its too late. because when he's dead, the wrong person may end up taking his position. might as well be proactive and give it to someone who deserves it and has the health to last a good 20+ years

hopefully Ill have such an amazing success to have the option to walk away from. I'm pretty sure he was crucial in developing Pixar and sticking with them through tough times as well.

If I had money and could just retire I would do that over straining myself with an illness. The guy is 56 so he's not all that far from the retirement age anyway.

If I was healthy then no I wouldn't. I would stick with the job I love.
