I don't think men and women are equal, what do you think?

yes, its 2011,and women claim to be equal to menbut I don't think that is true. I don't really understand how you compare the two. Intellectually ,yes men and women are equal. Men are bigger,stronger, and they think a lot differently than women. There are things men are justbetter at than women are like sports, strength, fixing things, fixing cars, etc. On average, the average man is better at these things and a few others (which I can't think of right now) than the average woman.

These differences makes a relationship with them sexy. I date men, because they are different from me, they think and act differently and have different likes/dislikes. I am impressed by the guy that changes my oil, fixes the light in my bathroom, etc etc. I find it sexy. On the other hand, women have things they are good at too. They are more nuturing, usually better at things that require attention to detail and of course style.

I feel like a lot of the time this " we are equal " crap demasculates men and makes men who are traditional perceived as insecure bastards, when I feel they are not. I feel like in a relationship if both partners are exactly the same, its boring, and you dump heads. Same as if both partners are dominant sooner or later neither one of you will compromise and you will have major problems.

The relationship runs smoother if each partner takes on roles . Why do people put down traditional women? I see nothing wrong with it. If its a good man that treats you with respect, and does his part in the upkeep of the family...what so wrong with being submissive to him?

There are a lot of laws protecting women such as in New hampshire there is a law that states if a woman is intoxicated she can't consent sex...if we are equal why are these laws in place? Why are women not allowed on the front line of wars,...they should be shot at , killed, and have to go through everything there male counterparts go through if we are equal! or Why do women get favor with custody battles or even with domestic violence? If we are equal, a women should be thrown in jail for hitting a man...i see it happen all the time in public and no one does a thing about it. The list goes on.

I was raised in a family where my mom cooked, cleaned, and worked. My dad worked, did fix ups around the house. I was taught that the male is the head of the household, but he is not to abuse his power, but take care of his wife and listen to her. (I miss the good ole days when relationships worked like this)

In closing, I don't think men and women are equal, I think some gender roles are meant to be kept...what are your thoughts?

I believe that men and women are equal, but that doesn't mean that all men are equal to all women---because when you think about it, not all women are equal to all other women, nor are all men equal to all other men. We're individuals, which means that we all have different strengths, weaknesses, talents, and abilities.

Sure, men are larger and have more upper body strength than women on average---but these traits run on a continuum and men and women overlap in these traits. There are some women who are taller than some men, there are some women who are stronger than some men. However, often people are discriminated against because of these things (i.e. short men or tough women).

The thing you have to ask yourself here is: Are men naturally better at things like being able to fix things? Are women naturally better with children? Or is it that we are socialized this way? As soon as a baby is born, they are subject to gender roles and expectations. Starting from the color and style of clothing you dress your baby in, to the types of toys you give your toddler/school age child (cars and lego? or kitchen and dolls?), to the extracurricular activities your parents involve you in (hockey or ballet?), to the expectations your parents have for you around the house (do you help mom cook dinner and do laundry? or do you help dad mow the lawn or work on the car?). Anyone can learn how to fix a car, and anyone can learn how to cook a meal----we just tend to be better at the things that we've been taught how to do and have experience doing. Some parents give their child a more "balanced" upbringing, but every child is exposed to gender expectations and will tend to gravitate to the traditional roles/interests of their gender because they tend to follow their peers (who likely have been raised more-or-less according to traditional gender roles).

That said, I have a female friend who is an amazing mechanic----my ex boyfriend didn't know a thing about cars (and was completely uncoordinated when it came to sports, for that matter). I work in a pediatric hospital and my male colleagues are amazing with kids---and I have female friends who tense up if there are children in the same room as them and would have no clue what to do with a baby if you handed one to them.

In terms of being dominant or submissive, there are loads of submissive guys out there, and loads of dominant females. Whether or not you have a dominant or a submissive personality has nothing to do with whether you're male or female, we simply EXPECT that men should take the dominant role and women the submissive role.

And laws? Just because there is a law about something doesn't mean that the law is just or reflective of how things should be.

live how ever you want. people before you fought long& hard sacrificed their lives , so they & others had a right to decide how to live their lives. caring wise 'husbands' can no longer legally rape, beat, deny custody, murder.. I don't know what history book you read, but women had no rights.

if you want to be a stay at home mom, go ahead. you can do that without trying to delete history.

btw men are not inherently better at fixing things. if you chose to get off your ass, & fix things, u'd know that.

if there did exist inherent relative weaknesses, that's even more of a reason to be trained to compensate for any weakness. just like if you broke your arm. after it heels, you would use it more not less, so it became as strong as the other.

I think, instead of waiting around for someone else to pick up the slack, everyone should be multifaceted. not one dimensional.

1. what so wrong with being submissive to him? Some women don't want to be submissive so it's wrong for them to be something they're not.

2. if we are equal why are these laws in place? Rape laws aren't just for women. Men get raped too.

^ have you talked to women from these good ole days. These relationships 'worked' but most were not happy.

"Its funny how feminists will fight for those rights that are positive and better the life of women, but the negative aspects of being equal to a man NObody fights for or wants...then when someone points out the facts women get upset and lash out". Exactly. I'm for equal rights, but women, most it seems, want, reasonably, the good part of the cake, but, despicably, the sh*t that comes with it they very happily leave it to the 'man'. It seems to me that when it comes to getting away with 'he good' things, women want equality, when it comes to sh*t, women want the neanderthal man to collect it. I'm fed up of hearing how it's males who have higher paid jobs etc, don't see many women looking at the LARGE number of men, which includes miners, builders, road builders, collecting sh*t from the streets, collecting sh*t in general, paying for a whore who left him, got hte kids the house and has not job, and so on. Women complain how we men have it easier, still, in this society. Well, let me tell you I had to work my ass off to get a good job, my good grades at school came out of HOURS of study and f***ing reclusion into a room, if anything I was seeing girls putting up the cute look to get 'understanding' and simpathy. I don't know where girls see the disparity in THEIR lives, and forget about the stories they may hear about OTHER girls (note that only bad things about girls are talked about.. men's? nah.. the guys are alright surely? let's talk about women women WOMEN's problems) It's a massive double standard, and as I've said recently     women are not good at looking in the mirror, the smallest criticism, there you go, a misogynist is what you become for them. Funny how they fail to see how much contempt and hate for men, and favouritism for women, there's around. Rate of suicide 4 times higher for men? Not important and does not say anything about the difficulties males are afcing nowadays. Guys are not doing well at school? The reason why many "feminists" put down the traidtional woman is they feel that they are trapped. They just want the same opportunities of men. Some women are capable of being athletic and handy enough to fix things. For those women who want to do manly jobs and are capable of doing the jobs without lowering the standards, should have the opportunity to do those jobs. It's the double stand, for example, those laws protecting women over men and the requirement of men  to act a certain way in front of women lie the problem. Men and women are different and can never truly be equal. Everyone deserves a shot at their goals in life, but women should not be shocked when a guy doesn't offer to pay or open the door for her or acts "gentlmanly."

First of all, you really need to understand that there is nothing wrong with any women that chooses to live in, what call people call, the traditional role.

Yes, women and men are different, and we do things certain things better than them and vise versa. The problem is, for thousands of years women have been forced into certain roles, some of which fit our personalities, and some of which do not.

Yes, we are nurturing caring creatures, but we are submissive fool.

Yes most of us would prefer to stay at home and raise our children, but that does not mean we are not excellent in the work place too.

It is about choice, and it is this choice that has been denied us so long. And when people mention the word, traditional, we immediately jump to that time when we didn't have the choice in how we wanted to live our lives, it was forced upon us by society.

If you are happy as a modern day house wife, then it's cool. But the beauty is, if you're ever sick and tired of that life, you have the choice to change and live your life how you want.

The problem stems from a misunderstanding, in my opinion. There are two types of "equality" first is equal rights, and second is equal abilities. Men and women should have equal rights. Men and women do not have equal abilities. When people disagree on the issue it is usually because one person is talking about rights, and the other is talking about abilities.

Equal is such a loaded term nowdays. We are in fact equal in the sense that one gender is not better than the other, but we do have our differences, which shouldn't be overlooked.
