Ever wondered to yourself if you really are crazy?

Obviously (most of us I hope) can function on our own in civil society. But I am really questioning my thought patterns, how I look at the world and my personal struggles.

I always wondered if the latter was due to how I rationalize things and the actions I take (or sometimes lack thereof). I sometimes wonder there thingy that most people “get” and I just don’t.

Just for the record; clinically insane people do NOT know they are insane. Also virtually everybody has their weird moments and mental quirks. Some people are just better and managing it better than others.

Quite a bit. I suspect I'm neurodivergent in some way although I think I've ruled out autism and ADHD.

ADHD used to be my top suspicion but I actually excel in focus tests and also excelled in school. Where I get unfocused is when I don't have to pay attention to anything. If I do, then I get very attentive and focused and my mind starts racing with distracting thoughts.

Autism seems unlikely since I seem to specialize in understanding other people's body language and emotions with hyper-active mirror neurons, or what some people informally call "empath".

Where I seem to be most unusual is in terms of impulsiveness and risk-taking. I'm far, far more impulsive and addicted to risk-taking than ordinary people, being into extreme sports. Like sane people tend to make risk assessments of risk vs. reward. For me, the risk is the reward. I get attracted to dangerous and thrilling high-stakes situations that don't even offer any reward.

So that seems to be one of the most screwy sides to me. I've even embarrassingly gotten arrested multiple times in the past for disorderly conduct and even resisted arrest in ways where the police officers would have been justified killing me. Thankfully they didn't.

I've improved over the years. Marriage really helped me that way since I now have to avoid being so reckless since getting myself hurt or killed will not only negatively affect me but also my wife. Studying about Stoicism helped me with impulse control a lot. Yet I'm still very drawn to dangerous, extremely high-risk situations that offer no real reward.

Some of my thoughts are also quite uncivilized. For example, I don't understand why it's illegal for two gentleman to engage in an honorable fistfight, provided both agree to it with good sportsmanship and there are no weapons involved that risk fatalities. That seems like a good and civilized way to me to resolve a dispute. Yet people call me barbaric when I share such thoughts and say violence is never the answer. So I pretend to go along and try to think that way but it doesn't suit my native way of thinking about things.
