I started smoking a tobacco pipe about 15 years ago. I never smoked tobacco before that. I tried cigarettes but didn't like them.

I smoked weed all the time for about 30 years but quit about 20 years ago. Now I enjoy taking a few puffs at night on rare occasions when someone gives me some buds. But like I said, that's very rare.

No, I used to smoke cigarettes in my 20s but I quit. Also marijuana is too illegal in Japan. The one time I tried to buy it from a Nigerian, it was weak as hell and cost a fortune compared to the US where weed is so cheap and so incredibly potent.

Cigarettes I used to rely on to pull all-nighters in my work, but I started to grow dependent on it and it was really starting to mess up my stamina (I'm a runner). So I ended up quitting with the aid of Nicorette gum to assist in the transition (started cutting down on the number of cigs a day by using the gum instead when I had a craving until I was using only the gum, and the gum was easier to whittle away than the cigs).

Before I quit though, I was a chainsmoker going through at least a pack a day, sometimes two.

How has that affected your health?

I really started to notice a lot just within a year or two of chain-smoking. I even started to get winded just walking around at Disney Land, for example. It was really horrible habit and very dumb in retrospect. Since then I improved my health a lot though. I mainly quit when I started falling in love with my wife. She never pressured me or even asked to quit but I wanted to be a good husband for her. That left alcohol as my number one unhealthy vice. I just managed to quit that too last year.

I smoked cigarettes in the military, weed after the military, cigars and pipes not long after that. And then finally decided I was tired of feeling like I could never really "breath", plus the cost of tobacco is crazy.

Only smoking I do is from the pieces of shit that smoke nearby and I have to deal with the second hand smoke. I tend to be very obviously disgusted by it to the point they feel uncomfortable and ashamed.
