Solid ovarian cyst?

Hi, I am 22 and i have never had sex or any contact w any guy. I had some pain while urinating so i decided to visit a doctor. She said that ultrasonography is needed. After the ultrasonography i was told that “There is a small amount of free fluid in the fossa of Douglas. In the left ovary there is a cyst containing solid components with a size of 35X29mm”.

since i am virgin and i dont have any stds, how can i have a solid ovarian cyst? Is it possible for a virgin person to have these? Can there be a mistake?

Wow girl, that is strange that they found a solid cyst if you've really never been sexually active. A few thoughts on this:

- Cysts can form for all sorts of reasons that have nothing to do with sex - sometimes it's just our bodies being weird.

- It's possible the ultrasound tech misread it or saw something that's not actually a cyst. Those machines can be a little wonky.

- If you're really really sure you've never done anything, I'd maybe ask your doctor for a second opinion ultrasound just to confirm.

- Even super rare, I guess it's possible to get an infection from something other than sex that somehow caused a cyst. But that would be unusual.

Don't panic yet! I'd schedule another scan ASAP with your doctor to get their opinion. And be honest with them again about being a virgin. They'll want to rule things out. But cysts sometimes just happen too. Try not to stress - I'm sure it's no big deal. Keep me posted on what they say!

Look , I am far from a doctor ( and you should consult there ) but you can certainly have an ovarian cyst without having any sex at all , unrelated to sex , and in essence they are like any cyst , now its not normally a big deal , and obviously the doctor is best placed to advise how to have removed..

Most probably initially a course of antibiotics , so will be fine , dont worry , but seek that professional advice.

Some conditions that can cause ovarian cysts can run in families and can be considered genetically inherited. Does any female in your family have the same condition as you do?

Whatever the cause of your medical issue is, being intimate is definitely not the major cause of it.

Check with your obgyn what the best approach for you is.

Ovarian cysts aren't sexually transmitted. They're pretty common and usually go away on their own without any issues. It happens when a follicle doesn't release an egg or doesn't discharge it's fluid after releasing an egg and shrink back down. You should talk to your dr about whether it's something that needs further treatment
