Potential cysts on ovaries. Now periods are irregular. What does this indicate and what should I be doing?

So I had to do an ultrasound because my periods became super irregular and I got one two weeks straight after my other one. And that one was not ending (lasted two weeks). My ultrasound results state "there is a ring of antral follicles involving both ovaries suggestive to multifollicular to polycystic morphology. The exact number of follicles is difficult to count on TA examination."

Anyhow after my ultrasound I didn't get my period again until day 42 of my cycle. I am still on this period and it has been ongoing for ten days. It was very light at the start and seems to be pretty light now, but a little heavier than spotting. The blood has been pretty dark during this period as well. Lastly, when this period started, I had several blood clots, but one of them being really big.

One of the doctors from the medical Centre that sent me to get the ultrasound just said, "don't worry about it, we'll do another ultrasound in a few months, just focus on school and study". He didn't say if I had cysts or not. I went for a second opinion and she told me that the ultrasound says I have cysts, and told me to go to my gynaecologist. I now need to book in to see my gynaecologist, however I do have questions about this.

With the irregularities of the past few periods and my results, what does this indicate? Should cysts be making periods this irregular? What is going on? And what should I do to help?
