No! I do not believe that most people get into a relationship because they're bored. Relationships are about a connection with somebody that is deeper than any other connection in your life. A true relationship is a partnership, with the strengths of the one complimenting, the weaknesses of the other and vice versa. If a person is bored in life, they're not the kind of person that others would want to be with romantically! What could you possibly have to offer someone else, when your own life bores you ? Think about it… Does someone who is utterly bored with their own life sound like the type of person you want to be in a long-term relationship with?

In psychology, Maslow categorized the hierarchy of needs in 1943. it starts at the bottom with obviously air, then water, then food, etc... (physiological.) Then it moves to safety and security, after that love and companionship. Above, that is self-esteem, meaning confidence, achievement, and the respect of others. At the very pinnacle is self actualization. however, I would absolutely disagree that self-esteem comes after the love of someone else! In my personal, and professional belief, if you do not love yourself, you are incapable of loving anyone else. If you do not respect yourself, how can you respect others (especially a romantic partner)? I do think Maslow had it mostly right, but I do disagree with him on the position of love and self-esteem on the hierarchy of needs.

Unfortunately, this is really true, and the reason why relationships end sooner or later is because people who cannot complete themselves establish a relationship with someone else to complete themselves. In other words, they love the person they are in a relationship with, not because they want to build a beautiful future, but because they need it.

I don’t think so. I think most people are either afraid of being alone or very uncomfortable with it. Almost certainly because they don’t like themselves as much as they should. So they’re either looking for someone to validate themselves, or they’re looking for a distraction from their real demons. All of which essentially spell disaster for any relationship. Oh… the irony!
