If men, as well as women, could physically have children, how do you think that would change our dynamic?

Well, this is kind of a loaded question because it short changes the actual dynamic as if the discomfort of pregnancy is the only thing actually changing: Men could get pregnant so how would men change society because of this? This implies the giant scary “patriarchy” is running the show and therefore would make changes that coddle to them which currently don’t happen for women.
However, if things really did change so the male/masculine were the ones getting pregnant does this equally mean women would take over those tasks almost universally dominated by males now? Would we expect to see women working away from home for weeks or months on end as commercial fishermen? (Fisherwomen?) Producing the energy we use on deep sea oil platforms, coal mines, and gas production? Would they take over firefighting, military combat units, construction, Highway maintenance, and such? Would women accept that nearly 8 times as many of them would die at work as they currently do?
Sure - women endure a lot for the beauty of creating life but never lose sight that men & women equally endure their own share of a burden that the other doesn’t.
Maternal leave would be mandatory, abortions would be less scrutinised, and everyone would be on the pill.
Realistically though, if this was our world, women would still be expected to birth the child. Maybe 30-20% of pregnancies would be carried by men
They’d have more respect for their bodies and want abortion to be legalized again 😂😂😂

Please note: I am going to use some terminology here to avoid another topic/discussion. My use of this terminology is not representative of my personal perspective on trangenderism. It is simply to avoid being sidetracked or someone taking offense.
It isn't physically possible for this to happen in men, which I assume most people understand. AFAB who transition and then become pregnant are not AMAB having a baby, they are AFAB who have transitioned, and then decided to become pregnant. If it theoretically became possible, so few men would do it that it would be irrelevant.
However, if it had always been something men could do, then they would be designed to do it, and they would be women. Childbirth wouldn't come as a shock because again, it would be normal. However, that begs the question: How would pregnancy happen without the male? Because otherwise, humanity would have ceased to exist. If, theoretically, there was a way for women to become pregnant without men, the earth would be only one sex.
Controversial take, here...
If men could also get pregnant, we probably wouldn't put up with women anymore. At all. I'm pretty sure most guys are tired of being blamed for the evils of less than 5% of our gender.
Some of us would just artificially fertilize. Some of us would isolate from women. Some would actively ostracize or even harm women.
I, for one, would probably still have women as friends, but I certainly wouldn't cohabitate with one.
That makes no sense.
1. Men usually want women because women are hot, not because men want babies.
2. if a person can give birth, they aren't a man, they're a woman, (unless they are both from being a hermaphrodite, but in either case it means women are still getting pregnant).
Oh no… men like you will stop talking to us… what a shame… whatever will we do
Men mostly want women because of sex but Oh this post can get you lynched by women hahhaha
Abortion would be an uncontested right. All forms of birth control would be free of charge by law nationwide. There wouldn’t be any issues of victim blaming in cases of assault and rape. Male rape would be taken much more seriously and it would never be a case of “he probably liked it” and predators would be recognized for exactly what they are regardless of gender. I imagine male predator counts would also be way, way down.
You do realize if women weren't needed to reproduce and be mothers then you'd be out competed by men in basically almost every category
@bobby_bush_eater men are terrible at not dying of disease, getting dementia, being statistically more likely to be mentally impaired, surviving famine, endurance events, etc.
@CrabCakes11 you seem to be getting emotional. All of the societal benefits women have come from being able to bring life into the world. That's why men are supposed to treat women with respect and special care.
Without this you are physically weaker then men and don't do physically demanding jobs. In society women would be completely dominated by men in this hypothetical world.
You mention things involving old age when it's young men who'd dominate the culture. Endurance? The best long distance runners and athletes of every sort are men. Famine? The wildly vast majority of farmers are men. In this hypothetical men would likely subjugate women in society.
@bobby_bush_eater Lol am I getting emotional or are you? Women do physically demanding jobs.
Who care if young men dominate culture? You’ll still die because your body sucks and your behaviors are self destructive. By “long distance” I’m sure you mea marathons. Those aren’t actually “long distance” the in scheme of things. Women are far better at ultra marathons and super long distance swimming. Farmers being men doesn’t make them better at surviving famine, lol, but women’s superior physiology does.
Can both of y’all shut up? I don’t want to see you two bicker about bullshit
Men can do pretty much everything physically better than women other than actions that require flexibility. If anything, if men could have kids as well, women would not even be needed to have society and they would be reduced to sex objects, more so than they already are.
It would certainly equal a few things out, like bias and prejudices in home and work life. Suddenly a lot of people would realize that a womb doesn't make you hysterical, and a penis doesn't make you invulnerable. Laws and society could maybe finally adapt to accommodate both equally.
There would be no way to distinguish between genders and so we'd just assign the weakest to the task since they would be the least helpful in hunting anyway. Eventually, an evolutionary advantage would develop for these weaker people that favors their ability to care for the young while evolutionary advantages for the strong emerge that favors their ability to hunt.
Oh wait..
You do realize that’s not how primitive people worked, right? Both women and men, including pregnant women hunted. Your little fantasy about man hunt woman stay home and have baby isn’t real
Clearly you wouldn't be a sexually reproductive organism if there are no sexes. Sex wouldn't exist for you. You probably wouldn't communicate with one another either because there is no reason to build relationships. Furthermore, you probably wouldn't have legs, because you wouldn't need to move around to meet other organisms like you in order to reproduce. You'd be a plant and just sit in the dirt making clones of yourself that grow out of your ass when the weather isn't terrible.
My buy buddies and I sometimes have discussions about this. The only way men would ever get pregnant and produce a baby is if the pregnancy lasted no more than 48 hours, and labor was 5 minutes... max. We guys don't know how you women put up with a creature growing inside you for 9 months, and then take up to 24 hours of constant pain to deliver a baby. Our hats are off to women!
The queers would be on that bandwagon like ants on a picnic lunch.
Incidentally, I started watching Junior (1994) shortly before I saw this question. Props to the Governator for being willing to take on the role of a pregnant man for the sake of comedy, as opposed to making a political statement.
If we talk about biology then that would be a way more far reaching change in history than Hitler getting accepted to art school.
Artificial wombs and robots with artificial wombs however will be a thing in the future within the next 1000 years which will help reducing declining birth rates.
Unless if Islam has taken over before then.
If men can be pregnant, that's clear for me: it will never change my mind about not having kids, because it's not only pregnancy that I fear, I'm sure I'm not able to rise a kid (I have ADHD and autistic issues)
That means that men would have the organs necessary for that. Then men would do it just fine. Better than women actually since there are thousands of pains especially during wars that are worse than childbirth and are only experienced by men and not women. Not to mention since we men are bigger, our organs would be bigger as well and it would be tiny bit easier to pop a baby out. Men don’t cry about little things as women do.
Seeing a woman pregnant is beautiful while seeing a man with his hands like this over his belly makes me disgusted...
God made women to get pregnant!
If men could get pregnant the same as women, and it were considered common and natural instead of uncommon and unnatural, it would change the whole pro choice argument quite a bit.
It wouldn't make any difference. Most people nowadays are choosing not to have children, that's why the reproduction rate is so low. At this rate the human race will become extinct within the next 1,700 years.
come on... common flu is a man's killer and you want them go throught the child birth?
undoable :D
Of coarse! I'm guessing you mean were it a total craps shoot as to wither the male or female became pregnant? For one I think the man-cold would not longer exist because anyone who can handle giving birth is tough enough to ignore a cold or flu!)
Duh. If I try to drive a car with no tires will it change how things work. That is how stupid of a question it was. Changing something fundamental is obviously going to change other things as well.
Sure, just like if women had to go to war and do all the dangerous jobs in the world, but this isn't reality.
Men will stop sleeping around and women will get to choose to stay with the pregnant man or leave him. Families will be stable
Having a womb and vagina would make them female, so they would not be men unless they were hermaphrodites and thus are both.
What dynamic?
Women will be the one still being mostly pregnant since most households have men as the primary bread winner , so the pregnancy would be the woman's role
And since giving birth is not something only women can do , women will lose some value to be honest , give it a thought
I think it would be pretty empowering for women because finally men would get a taste of what we women have to experience.
If this why feminists are saying that men can get pregnant too? The whole trans thing? Because they want to empower women? Empowerment was never a good thing. Even for men it isn’t
It would be the end of the human race.
Women have a different pelvis to men and a different genetic makeup.
What a bizarre thought , and how would the men get pregnant? 😂
Can’t. It’s impossible
Agreed
It would make "Enemy Mine" an even better flick than it already is!!
We would probably be halfway to alpha centauri by now if there was only one gender.
You're talking about the #1 thing that defines what it means to be female. Men can't do that because then they wouldn't be men. Simple as that.
It's not possible. Men can't impregnate themselves. If it happens then we don't need girls / women, love, dating, wedding, sex. A lot of time, money can be saved without girls/ women. Men can't produce sperms and eggs at the same time.
I don't think we would basically put up with each other anymore, unfortunately. I think that would be the death of relationships.
-Abortions would be readily accessible to men and encouraged
Assuming we'd get to keep our testosterone level and continue to be the one's who have to do the hunting and building, women would be obsolete. But if not, we'd just basically be another women
And if women were to be obsolete that time, they'd be forced to compete and evolve to be just as strong as men. They'd basically just be another men. Or in short, there will just be no genders.
Women would be reduced to sex objects or made obsolete entirely
Well, they can,,,,,,,,, Arnold was knocked up !!!
This doesn't change anything for me.
Girls do not like me and getting sterilized is redundant.
i think many societies would have WAY more children like that. cause there's so many gay and lesbian and sexually confused people.
I suspect women would be treated better because guys would have first hand experience what is like to be woman (have period, get pregnant).
Likewise, if woman could experience what is like to be a guy, guys would be treated better too.
I expect good things to happen if both sides can understand each other better
There was a lesbian that lived her life as a man for eighteen months. Well read for yourself.
theliberal.ie/.../
The world would be over populated, but with men only going through it once.. if they make it the whole way.
It's already happened. we have artificial wombs and men pretending to be women. More than half the world can't even define women. They are obsolete.
I thought that men can have children if they identify as such.
Men wouldn’t be able to!
It would take over 5,000 years for this to even work.
heck yeah! no more unjust court decisions, giving the whore of a woman all the man's money for "child support". :D
We would ruin the concept that childbirth is the hardest thing on earth.
I’ve pushed kidney stones out of my penis but I’d rather not pass a baby… fun fact, hyenas birth out their female pseudo penis.
Screwing with God's creations can only end badly.
Seeing as how birthing children is really all women bring to the table…. Women would be even more useless
There would be equality between men and women.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
that totally mess up the NFL playoffs.
It would stop women using kids as a weapon.
Men wouldn’t be such wusses
There would be less people on Earth. 😅
yet more reasons not to start a damn family
They complain about cramping and bloating.
🤣🤣🤣 my goodness…
Yes.
