Your large intestine is roughly 5 feet long. Waste migrates slowly through it over hours to days as water and salts are reabsorbed. Eventually it gets to the end of the shit pipe at your rectum/anus and has to move out... After you take a dump you clear your rectum temporarily until waste migrates back down.
