How did you handle it?
Yes, being really sick while totally alone can be an isolating and challenging experience. When you are unwell without anyone to assist, simple tasks like getting food, staying hydrated, or even reaching for medication can become daunting. The lack of support can amplify feelings of vulnerability and anxiety. It's crucial to have a plan in place for such situations, like having easy-to-make meals, essential medicines, and a way to contact friends, family, or medical professionals for help. Being prepared can make a significant difference in managing illness when alone. read

That was when I just got kicked out from my moms place I was living alone for the first time. At first I felt like maybe I should call an ambulance or something. But then I just lay there. There were people around in that place but in those 3 days it was just a coincidence that nobody came by so I was completely alone but I got better slowly so it was alright. When it first happened it was a bit scary though. One time I slightly sprained my ankle when I was jogging alone in the forrest too but I could still walk home it just took me a long time. Those are the only two situations I can remember.

I couldn't eat either.
Now it's been so long it's all kind of a blur. I don't even remember going to the bathroom or drinking anything. Maybe I didn't 🤷🏼♀️00 Reply
+1 yI live with parents but last I was sick I ended up laying in bed and try to sleep. I first had a sore throat and then a cold & cough. I got it from someone at church but no clue who. But I remember laying down in bed because I was dizzy and stuff.

+1 yYes I did. I was about 23 and homeless living in my car. I had broken up with my girlfriend and left the house where we were living. I was basically living on the streets for several months and didn't have anything I was eating practically nothing but white bread and water.
I was sleeping in the mountains wrapped up in a coat at night in freezing weather and snow. I got seriously sick and wasn't even sure I was going to make it.
I somehow drove to the house where I had lived with my girlfriend and collapsed on the doorstep. She heard me and came to the door and found me groggy and almost passed out.
She rushed me to the hospital where they took care of me for a couple of days and then took me back to her house where I couldn't get out of bed for about 3 weeks. She made all my meals and took care of me that whole time. She saved my life.

+1 yFood poisoning and terrible flu with very high fever while travelling alone overseas.
I wasn't totally alone since I stayed in a hotel that had a large staff.
However, I quarantined myself in my hotel room for several more days & nights, only to ask the hotel staff to help me with my food and meds requirements.

Yes , and at this time , feeling sick , I don't want anyone around , it's probably extremely contagious, I feel like shit , I just want to get though it , last thing I need is someone fussing around making everything worse , I want just the quickest recovery possible.

+1 yI was very sick while backpacking alone. I was stuck in a wilderness camp -thankfully a wet camp- for three days, and I had to stumble out to the trailhead without no food left. It was unpleasant…but I was never really worried I would die. I totally understand how a serious illness when alone could threaten to panic one.

1 yWhen I was among first batch of Swedes who got Covid. Flew in from Asia and passengers onboard the Qatar flight got sick and was rushed to hospital upon landing in Doha. Onboard the flight to Stockholm, I got shivers and coughed a lot. Went to the flat and for a week had 40+ fever in combination with all covid symptoms and diarrhoea. Was totally alone for initial 5 days before called paramedics and got tested.

+1 yYep a few times. Just laid down in misery. I always have canned soup in case on hand. That would have been my meals. Otherwise I just remember being in pain and miserable. I don't like people around when I'm sick anyway.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yMy whole life... both of my parents work so even when I was sick I generally took care of myself from a very early age.
Living on my own after 18 ... I even took care of some college and university friends while they were sick both guys and girls but I never got anybody for me even if I was terribly sick. After so many years you learn to take care of yourself.. cook for yourself and manage other chores. I never had a girlfriend so don't know how does it feel to be taken care of, but life goes on. At the end of the day, you have to take care of yourself.
However, I am incredibly smart and that helps a lot. Even though I am not a doctor but I do have knowledge of most medicines and bodies, probably more than a lot of doctors and I do read research journals.
I got admission to study medicine before but choose to study physics instead.

10 ReplyYeah, I had Norwalk virus I think, or maybe food poisoning. I slept by the toilet and kept a bucket close by too. It was a miserable and scary weekend. I started thinking I should phone for an ambulance, but I fell asleep and when I woke up, the nausea began to pass. It took 3 days.

1 yThe one and only time I got covid my partner was out of town for a court case. Was so horrible, he said he can come back to take care of me but I didn't want him to miss out on the opportunity.
00 ReplyYes, I've got really sick a couple of times, and as I'm single I have to take care of myself, to make things easier to cope I have batch cooked soups and stews and frozen in individual portions that can be easily heated as needed.

Kind of. My solitude and independence ran its course. Now I am with the sweetest and most interesting guy there is, and I promise to stick with him forever. ♥️🥰
