In this situation would you see a Doctor or GP?

Hey soo a couple of days ago I went to get my henna done but before I did that I went to shave my arms you know just to get rid of any unwanted hair… anyways I was kind of rushing and in a hurry what happened was as I went to grab my phone charge which at the time was on the socket I didn’t see my razor I hit my middle finger against the razor completely slicing off my natural nail obviously is hurt and still does my natural nail has been split completely but imbedded into the corner of my finger and it hurts. I am willing to see a doctor or a GP but I am honestly not sure can you all advice me on what to do thanks.

Oh no girl, that does not look good at all! Based on the pic you sent, it seems like a pretty deep cut into your nail bed. These types of injuries can easily get infected if not properly treated.

I know visiting the doc is a hassle, but in this case I really think it's worth getting it checked out by a GP. They'll be able to clean the wound properly, check for any dirt or pieces of nail embedded, and make sure everything is healing okay under there. Left untreated, it could form an abscess or develop into paronychia.

A GP will also likely prescribe you with antibiotics as a precaution against infection. Nail bed cuts are tricky spots cause they're hard to completely clean out and keep clean. Better to play it safe!

Don't try removing any nail fragments yourself. Let the doctor do it under sterile conditions. I know it's scary, but they see way worse injuries on the daily - you'll be in good hands. Hope you feel better soon! Fingers crossed it heals up properly.

You could use nail clippers to cut the other bit away, however just go to the doctors and get it sorted, while it might hurt it’s fairly mild as a wound, damaged finger.

I was thinking the same to take it out myself but it’s hard as I feel a little piece is glued to the breaker bed

Forgotten that everyone lives in Canada and this isn't a flex because straight up I would just walk into the hospital wait a few hours and then get antibiotics that happened to my middle finger but it swelled up I think it was from the products I was using they gave me big pills I felt like a horse

nah not yet. you could see if you can pull it out with tweezers yourself if its imbedded in. i doubt a doc would do anything to it frankly.

i know it will. but it'll be better than it getting infected. which in that case they'll take it out then and it'll hurt same/worse.

Isn't a GP also a doctor? To prevent infection, you should see a medical professional.

Yes you should see your GP. If he's worth his salt he can fix it on the spot, just cut out the offending part of the nail. Better get it fixed now or you could lose your finger.

Honestly, probably not much they can do. I’d apply ointment to help it heal and keep from getting infected.
