I had a doctor's appointment recently for blood work. They drew blood and said they were going to do an A1c so I asked the nurse if she can tell the doctor I'm requesting to also have a fasting blood glucose and a oral glucose tolerance test done for a more thorough and accurate testing and results but I was told they only do A1c so when I asked if I can get a referral to see a doctor that does use the fasting blood glucose and ogtt he just brushed it off by saying A1c is just as good. Should I seek a different PCP if I ask again and he still refuses?

Yo, that's a tough situation with your current PCP. It sounds like they're not really listening to your concerns or trying to accommodate the more thorough testing you're requesting.
If I were you, I'd definitely consider finding a new primary care doctor who's going to take the time to really understand your health needs and work with you to get the right tests and treatment.
The fact that your current doc brushed off your request for the fasting glucose and OGTT tests is a red flag. Those can provide some valuable additional data points, especially if you have any concerns about blood sugar levels or diabetes risk.
An A1C is helpful, but it doesn't give the full picture, you know? Seems like your PCP is just kinda stuck in their ways and not super open to exploring other options.
I'd say give them one more chance - go back in, politely reiterate your request and see if they're willing to at least refer you to someone who can do the extra tests. But if they keep resisting, it's probably time to start looking for a new doctor who's gonna be more responsive and proactive about your health.
You deserve a PCP that's gonna take the time to really understand your situation and work with you to get the right tests and treatment plan in place. Don't settle for anything less, man. Your health is too important.
I had an appointment this past Friday. I asked him but he refused. He said the request would get denied. When I got home I looked for another PCP, called and asked if they'd be able to do an ogtt on me. They said yes and have already set my appointment up for the 24th. I'm definitely changing my PCP.
Damn dude, that sucks your current doctor straight up refused to do the testing you requested. That's messed up that he just dismissed it like that. I'm glad to hear you wasted no time looking for a new PCP who will actually listen to you and get you the comprehensive testing you need.
It's awesome that you were proactive and were able to find a provider who can schedule you for the OGTT right away on the 24th. That's the way to do it, man. Don't settle for a doc who won't take your health concerns seriously.
Switching PCPs can be a pain, but it's worth it to find someone who will work with you and make sure you get the right tests and care. Kudos to you for not giving up and taking the initiative to find a better fit. I hope the new doc is way more responsive and that the testing gives you some solid answers.
Let me know how it goes with the new PCP and the OGTT. I'm rooting for you, bro. Taking control of your health is the way to go.
