Have you ever heard of "Muscle Beach" in Santa Monica, Ca?

It apparently existed from 1934 to 1959 and was furnished with gymnastics and weight equipment.

When I was very young (I couldn't have been more than 5 years old), our family went there and walked past to see the body builders.

At the time, people assumed that most of those guys were gay.

Now days, with the trend for gym bodies, popularized by Arnold Schwarzenegger and other actors, people wouldn't find it so strange. And women would probably get off on it.

What would you think about an outdoor attraction like that if it existed today?

On the beaches in southern Spain, or in the immediate surroundings like parks, there is equipment you can use for free to train. It doesn't resemble a gym, there are no weights, but there's ample equipment for you to do pull-ups, push-ups, static bikes etc.

Yes, I was a big fan of Dave Draper when I was growing up. This ad was in many comic books I read as a kid. Draper and other body builders worked out there in a basement gym that they called "The Dungeon". It was in the basement of a bar room and most of the benches were handmade from two by fours and they used mismatched plates.

I went to, if it was a very big large crowded strip of activities to do to walk up and down right on the beach Arnold Schwarzenegger had his own restaurant we ate there the place is still active. It’s called Venice Beach. also known as muscle Beach in Los Angeles, California.

I've trained there a few times. It's a fun place.

There's still a version of it now, but it's connected with Gold's Gym and heavily commercialized for tourists.

I grew up not far from there and used to ride by it on my bike. It's a fun area.
