I went today to renew my CPR certification, and it really got me thinking… this is one of those skills you hope you never need, but it can literally save a life…
Now I’m curious.. how many people actually know how to do it?

I’ve been trained in CPR and basic first aid support for two decades. I’ve been on standby to use it about half a dozen times, but i have fortunately never actually had to.
One of the classes i’ve taken makes it clear that the most important part of modern CPR training is learning how to use AEDs and to know where to find one in the event of an emergency. CPR alone adequately supports life long enough to make a meaningful impact on recovery in about 11% of cases. AEDs more than double that. They’ve also become significantly more affordable and much more user friendly in recent years. It’s not a terrible idea to buy one or two. Keep one in the house and one in your car and be ready to save a life without the panic in trying to find one in an otherwise unfamiliar space.
Yeah, ADE is very important
No, thank god. I was babysitter and a camp chounsoler so I had to get certified and when they explained that you might break ribs on a small child if you have to give it, I had to seriously ask myself if I had the stones for it.
I don't know if you really will do it every time or if the instructor just said that so I wouldn't be too gentle but 2 people told me they broke ribs. One on a toddler, another on almost a newborn.
I'm 6ft 240lb, I hope I never have to trust my motor skills that much.
There’s a small chance this unfortunate event could happen if you place your hands in the wrong position or push too hard..
I know I had received training, I’ve never done it, and I hope I never will.
I learned it at a young age but have never had to use it on anyone.

Yes, I am certified as well mainly for my job , and yes I had to do CPR one time when I worked as an Armed Security Supervisor , on someone that fainted at work , and they thanked me tons for saving their life . A few months after that My company awarded me Officer of the year and I got a really nice bonus 😊
Nice..

As for CPR it’s all about the ABC’s as in Airway, Breathing & Circulation & yes I do know how to preform CPR & no I haven’t had to use it yet knock on wood. If someone is choking I know the Heimlich maneuver as well but I tell people if I don’t like them I’ll use a plunger instead of mouth to mouth.
Ok 😄
In another life, my job required my knowing things like this. It also required knowing how to harm people, just in case they had intents on harming another.
No, I haven't had to use it. I came close, but she was breathing on her own, though dying.
Since I retired, I haven't bothered to keep it up and, I suspect, there are new things that have replaced it. I know, then, we had a hard time finding defibrillators and now they seem to be everywhere.
What was your job
I know how to do CPR I know how to use defibrillators I also know what to do when someone is having a stroke or seizure I know how to deal with diabetics and I also know basic first aid. Which I had to know these things because of the nature of my job.
But I thankfully never had to actually use any of that knowledge.
What is your job?
Wow.. both sound cool 😊
Do you like the last job more?
Yeah they're both neat jobs.
O working in agriculture? It's difficult, hard and dirty work but I like it I get to spent a lot of time outside, in the countryside and working with my hands it's taught me a lot of new skills and knowledge I did not posses beforehand. I always feel fulfilled at the end of the day ( most days )
And I help feed the world so that's always a good thing could pay a bit better but beyond that it's nice.
That’s awesome😊
One day, I want to own a farm filled with all the animals I love, especially cute goats, and chickens and grow every kind of plant I enjoy…
Maybe so.. but I love the idea 😄
I worked part time at a climbing gym on my days off before covid. Everyone who worked there was required to take advanced first-aid classes with emphasis on head injuries. So yes, CPR was apart of the curriculum. I've never had to use it thankfully.
Most injuries I've had to deal with were minor things... cuts, scraps, and a couple broken bones (mostly broken fingers).
Let's pray I won't have to use anything because...
Underwhelming, I know
No that was actually funny. I chuckled @Maybe_Maybe_not
A mission completed then, once again !
Yeah but does it even count? I laugh at most things 😅
You are unable to ruin my day.
That was never my intention. I hope you're having an amazing day !
Ey it's a good one, maybe not amazing but a good one which is enough to have me fully satisfied 😌
What time is it there?
@queenofcardio @Maybe_Maybe_not
Notice Elena is gone by the way. Sad 😔
@Still-alive I noticed. Wow.
Gone? Not gone for long I guess lol
No, when i got my Senior lifesaving Badge CPR was not invented yet. We used Artificial Respiration
Oh.. wow
🤣🤣🤣
You’re not that old, neighbor. Resuscitation techniques have been taught to medical professionals for centuries. Mouth to mouth earned public recognition in the 1950s and the modern combination of artificial respiration and chest compressions became common a decade later.
I know you’re supposed to not do it unless somebody stops breathing. I’ve never done it, but I saved somebody’s life who was choking to death with the Heimlich maneuver
That’s good
No but this was funny years ago.
Omg.. that was hilarious 😆
Yes, but that was like 40 years ago. It was required learning when I went to school. But I was like 10 years. old. Not sure you want your life in the hands of a guy who learned CPR when he was 10.😆
Nope 😄
Pretty much was required for a bunch of jobs I've done... I think the military made me get qualed in it too. Never had to use it... thankfully.
I learned it and got certified once. i could probably use a refresher and get it renewed though
That’s good.. it’s really important 😊
Just another notch on my belt y know. Put that on the resume lol
Yes I know how to do it. I have taken the class and an EMT class.
Cool
Yes I think every one in the world should know how to do it and do it right
I know how lucky for everyone I never had to.
Staying Alive Staying Alive. God it is going to get boring.
I have a certificate but I didn't have to use this knowledge
Trained? Yes.
Ever had to use it? No.
Ever had it used on me? No.
I did. Need to be recertified but thankfully never had to use it
I can do it, but I hope I never have to use it.
Yes. It's required for my job.
Awesome 😎
I know it and I am CPR certified but I've never had to use it
I was shown once, but never applied it in real life
Yes had to use it several times.
Because of the nature of your job?
Yes and luckily no need for it so far.
I learn didn't need to use it knock on wood.
Im certified and no.
Nope. The person will die if I'm around
Nope.
Good 😊
Yeah
