Why would a guy purposely avoid eyecontact?

These two weeks there's been a guy that avoids me if he has the chance.. He would avoid being near me. But if by accident we where in the same room he wouldn't make eye contact. But he would also act normal like everything was cool. So I thought he isn't interested in me. But yesterday this guy saw me from afar. it seemed as if he purposely avoided my gaze..and it seemed like he had trouble or found it very difficult to avoid eye contact. His friend stood behind me and when he saw his friend he went to him and they started chatting. When I walked their direction to get my coat the guy I'm interested in stopped talking and became quiet, (he's always quiet when I'm near him) he checked me out and made eye contact when I wanted to leave the room. By the way we've never talked. Do guys purposely avoid eye contact when they are not interested? Because, when I'm not interested in a guy I wouldn't really care if we locked eyes.. I'd act normal, like everything is cool.. and I'd defeniteley wouldn't lead the guy on.. But If he's interested, why is hasn't he approached me yet..? Ps. I don't think he's a shy guy..

He's avoiding eye contact because he's the shy type and doesn't want his feelings to show.

It's clear that he's interested in you. However his shy nature is stopping him from ever approaching you at all. Even the most extroverted guys have a problem approaching girls who interest them.

So you're saying.. id I want anything to happen..I should show him more signes that I'm interested too. Or I should do the approaching myself? One other thing, if he is interested like you say.. then why did he avoid me.. When I'm interested in some one I would not avoid him even if I was shy I'd still want to be around that person alot..

You can try approaching him for the first time. Have a good talk. Then all the rest, let him approach you.

I think he should still have no idea how to communicate with you.If there is no good a start then followed it is difficult to continue the exchange anymore
