When people talk about mental hospitals they always talk about how much better they were in the past. They say that now most psych wards are like dorms while in the past mental hospitals were like prisons. But while mental hospitals in the 30s may have resembled prison, over the 40s they got better and reached their zenith in the 1950s and the largest psychiatric facility ever constructed was the Pilgrim psychiatric center that housed 13,000+ patients and while parts of it resembled prisons, those portions were only for the most violent patients. As patients got better and better they would get to the sections that were less and less restrictive. And they had things like arts and crafts, activities and they would even tend gardens outside. And do you know how much it cost to build it? 25% of the NYC state budget O_O Could you imagine the US spending 25% of its budget to help the mentally ill? Now many people argue that we don't need such excessive hospital systems because now we have psychiatric drugs to treat people with mental illnesses. While it did attenuate the need for psychiatric hospitals, I can't help but think we overshot and put too much faith in medicine as the graph below shows.

Now you may say that mental hospitals now a days don't resemble prisons like the ones in the past, forget winding up in a place that resembles a prison, many people who were driven to criminal behavior by their mental illnesses actually end up in prison. Either that or they are homeless.

I know the picture may be funny to some people, but I'm actually asking a very serious question. What do you think of morbidly obese people? I'm not talking about someone who could afford to lose like maybe 20 pounds. I mean those ho are so huge, they can't walk for long, can't run, BMI is over 35, have health problems, need a motor chair in the grocery store obese people. When you first see them, without knowing them as a person, what do you think about them personally?

I keep seeing people using it to determine if someone is at a healthy weight or not... I'll leave out my opinion

I'm just curious to see how many have been affected by cancer whether it's your own experience with cancer or maybe someone you love and care about? and if you or someone you care about has had cancer could you say which cancer? Obviously only if you want too if not that's okay <3

Apparently with the people they could test on, they found that weed actually helped them to focus better and be less impulsive. Along with using weed would be safer than the stimulant meds we are normally given.

I've been noticing that every time after i worked on my abs at the gym, it got a nice little vein in the middle, just above the belly button. I've searched online for this but the results only show "lower abs veins". I don't know if any of you guys got veins in the middle of your abs like me or am I the weird one.

Today (yes, day), I've only gotten an hour of sleep. After laying in bed restlessly for 5 hours straight, getting up to eat breakfast, then laying down again, I had to get up for a dentist appointment.
I have insomnia and I simply can't go to bed at a normal time. It seems like my brain is wired for a different time zone completely.

On school days I run on about 6 hours of sleep each night... It's a bit better, but most days I'll just stay up the entire night then drink cups of tea. My eyes look awful because I don't get enough sleep.
