Because, as intrusive as it may sound, squeezing the breast is very important because it spreads out the breast tissue and allows for a much clearer picture.
The tighter they squeeze, the better the image BUT squeezing it to the point where it starts to pinch doesn't make the image any better. However, if it's not tight enough that you feel uncomfortable then there's a good chance that the image quality is compromised (and something could be missed)

Lol... I have a pretty high tolerance for discomfort and pain, so, nah... I wouldn't want to insult my tech's expertise.
That, and, my tech was a lady who was one of the *original* techs trained on the Eklund technique (or at least one of the earliest ones, if not one of the absolute original group). She's been doing this since the '70's or '80's, so, I trust that she knows exactly what she's doing. (:
